Due to the featuring of ARFC in the Weekend Warriors series in The New Paper (TNP) on 18 Jan 08, the TNP was fully sold-out just 77 minutes after it hit the newstands.
The mad rush and scramble to grab a copy of the TNP also caused massive jams island-wide, especially at the petrol stations, convenience stores like 7-11 and Cheers, road-side newspapers stalls, book-shops, "zha-huo-dian" and mama-stalls. There were also many many reports of fightings, pushing and shovings by the people queuing up to buy the TNP.
As a result of the huge demand, SPH quickly ordered re-print of 777,777 copies of the TNP, but that also proved to be futile as the re-prints were also sold-off within 7 hours.
Due to the huge popularity of the team, the FAS is seriously considering to invite ARFC to take part in the up-coming S-League season, as a replacement for the kelong-plagued Liaoning FC.
The ARFC Board of Directors will be meeting up on Monday to discuss on the issue.
