ARFC displayed amazing resolve in come-from-behind 5-3 win

Courtesy of yet another inspiring performance from ARFC captain-to-be Chun Haw, ARFC came from 1-3 down to once again defeat Redbacks 5-3 at Crescent Girls SS.

 ARFC drew first blood in the 2th min. The ball was whipped to the left flank by Jerry which saw Alvin making his trade-mark foray down the left bye-line.  Jerry continued his run and was justifiably rewarded when he connected sweetly from Alvin’s low cross. His first-timer gave their GK no chance at all.  What a dream debut for Jerry. 1-0

The opponents then scored twice, with their 2^nd goal clearly from an offside position, to lead 2-1 at half-time.

ARFC suffered yet another bad luck when opponent handled the ball before scoring. ARFC warriors immediately surrounded the inept referee ala Man United players during Fergie era but to no avail.  1-3

Instead of drowning in sorrow, ARFC drew strength from adversity. In the 60^th min, Chun Haw was hacked down at the left just outside the penalty box. Blackburn did a decoy step-over and Alvin then bent the ball down the centre. Their GK looked to have the ball well covered but perhaps frightened by the imposing figure of Toh charging in, he somehow allowed the ball to go between his legs! 2-3 and this was Alvin’s 262^nd ARFC goal.

ARFC drew level 5 mins later. From yet another potent Blackburn corner, Toh made a fair challenge on their GK who then dropped the ball. Gary picked up the loose ball and laid to the onrushing Chun Haw who simply cracked a first-time volley into the bottom left corner. World class goal!   3-3 and this was Chun Haw’s 32^nd ARFC goal.

ARFC took the lead 5 mins later.  Darren, who looked to be back to his best, stopped their attack and pushed the ball upfield.  Chun Haw retrieved the ball, duly dribbled past 3 opponents and let fly a rocket to the top right corner, giving their GK, in fact any GK in the world, no chance at all. 4-3 and this was Chun Haw’s 33^rd ARFC goal.

ARFC put the result beyond doubt 5 mins later.  From a counter-attack, Blackburn’s left-wing cross resulted in a chaotic scene in their penalty area.  Jerry’s initial shot was blocked but the ball fell kindly to him and he needed no second invitation to place the ball home for his 2^nd ARFC goal. 5-3
