ARFC's 13-match unbeaten streak in 2013 came to end

In a hastily-arranged friendly match, no thanks to the Indons, ARFC lost their 13-match unbeaten streak in 2103 after going down 2-3 to The Outsiders. This was also ARFC’s 2nd defeat in 2013.

The full match was witnessed for the very first time by Hee’s muse – Melissa!

The Outsiders is currently playing in the D2D Sunday afternoon league and has a good central midfielder and 2 very fast wingers. However, when faced with ARFC’s Guoxiong and Darren, they were not able to gain any significant advantage.

In the 7th min, they took the lead. 0-1

10 mins later, ARFC equalized thanks to fast thinking from Wayne.  Wayne’s quick throw-in saw Alvin scampering away down the right flank. Alvin’s cut-back was met with precision-like timing from Soon who came from deep to place the ball home for his 48th ARFC goal. 1-1.

In the 27th min, ARFC conceded an own goal. 1-2

ARFC staged a strong fight-back. First, Guoxiong produced a superb over-lapping run ala Dani Alves and crossed to the far post. Alvin headed the ball back to Soon who was totally unmarked from 7.7 metres. Alas, he headed the ball just over. Unfortunate miss but what a fantastic build-up.

How Meng then punted a long goal-kick ala Pepe Reina that sailed over their defence to Alvin. With their keeper charging out, Alvin looped the ball over him but sailed just 0.77 cm wide. Unlucky!

ARFC finally equalized in the 37th min. From yet another fast break, Soon sliced in a through ball down the left to Hee. Obviously, Hee is now much (x 77) lighter than before and despite the close attention of 3 defenders, Hee simply glided past them ala Ryan Giggs (20 years ago) with his speed and squared the ball across goal. Alvin killed the ball with a great first touch ala Fernando Torres (the Liverpool version), saw their keeper coming out, and simply whacked the ball into the bottom left corner for his 201st ARFC goal. 2-2

This was Alvin’s 4th consecutive match that he has scored.

Both teams were evenly matched in the 2nd half.

ARFC then conceded another goal. 2-3

How Meng the kept ARFC in the match when he produced a superb reflex save from their header. World class goalkeeping!

In the last 7 mins, ARFC’s superior fitness prevailed and bombarded the opponent’s goal but to no avail.

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Soon and Ron.

Alvin reaches 200 ARFC goals !!!!!!!

In a friendly match against Monshi Monsters, which is filled with NBA-like height players, Alvin became the 1st ARFC warrior to reach the 200-goal milestone in a 3-1 victory.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper             -           Impeccable How Meng
Right-back       -           Dependable Jinzhong

ARFC took a while to get used to their physical tackles with Derrick bearing the brunt the most.

ARFC opened the scoring in the 17th min. Guoxiong popped a delicious ball down the right flank that saw Wayne breaking away in delight. With their keeper to beat, Wayne showed that he is unselfish when he squared the ball across after drawing out their keeper. The on-rushing Alvin had the easiest of easiest task to simply tap the ball into the unguarded net for his 200th ARFC goal!!!!  1-0.

After scoring, Alvin took off his top, swung 7 times above his head and wheeled away in delirious fashion. After seeing his bulging muscles bouncing up and down, all the SYTs and PRC PDMMs present could not tahan anymore and started stripping off their tops in their efforts to entice and seduce Alvin. However, Alvin turned them down as he is now a changed man – a total family man.

The opponents then equalized in the most bizarre manner when the referee awarded an extremely soft penalty after the ball hit Darren. 1-1.

ARFC then spurned a few chances.

In the 27th min, Guoxiong was put clean through by Blackburn. He sprinted clear, rounded their keeper and looked to have scored his 16th ARFC goal. Unfortunately, he took an extra touch and his follow-up shot was incredibly cleared away by their back-tracking defender.

Derrick and Kenny were having a field day down the flanks with their dominating penetrative runs at right and left flank respectively. However, their efforts were not rewarded with goals.

ARFC regained the lead about 7 mins after the re-start. Sebastian played a low venomous slide-rule pass ala Jamie Redknapp/Xabi Alonso and Alvin came from deep and totally shattered their offside trap. With only their keeper to beat, Alvin could have gone for goal himself but he remembered Wayne’s kindness earlier. Alvin then squared the ball across and Kenny gleefully steered the ball in for his 18th ARFC goal. 2-1

ARFC conjured several more chances but no goals.

In the 67th min, Sebastian scored ARFC’s 3rd goal. Chun Haw showed his great awareness when he cleverly won a free-kick just outside the box at the inner left area. Sebastian regained his deadly dead-ball skills when he plonked the ball right through the wall to beat their keeper at his near post. 3-1 and this was Sebastian’s 84th ARFC goal.

7 mins later, ARFC had a goal disallowed. Sebastian threaded a no-look pass down the right flank and there was BLACKBURN (!!!!!) who turned back the clock in the early 90s when he galloped down the right flank. His low cross was turned in by Wayne but the referee correctly ruled that Wayne was offside.

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Darren, Jinzhong, Derrick and Hee.

200-goal hero Alvin was clearly over the moon. Speaking to xinmsn.com in Mandarin, Alvin beamed:
“I want to thank all warriors all these years for creating the 200 goals for me. I never imagined that I would be the first ARFC warrior to reach 200 goals, especially since I could not even score in my first few matches for ARFC. Last but not least, I want to thank my wife, Irene, for allowing me to go for ARFC matches and staying at home to do all the housework.”

“To celebrate, I will be organizing a whole-night booze-dance-sex session soon…. All are welcome….Watch out for details of the session on WHATSAPP…..”

Tjioe becomes 1st-time father!

On behalf of ARFC, I would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Hard-man Tjioe for his new-born daughter, Megan Tjioe, who arrived in this beautiful world on 04 Jun 2013 weighing 3.29 kg and measuring 51 cm in height!

In about 18 years' time, we can expect Tjioe to go to Mambo Jumbo with Megan liao.......

Cheers!!

Derrick grabbed 5 goals in 7-0 win

In the most one-sided match since our 14-0 whipping on FC Corpus Christi on 18 Jan 2009, ARFC demolished our opponents 7-0 though the score-line could have easily reached 20 goals.

The only justification is that our opponents played the 1st half with 9 players and the 2nd half with 10 players. But even with 11 players, they would also be thrashed.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper - Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back - Earl
Sweeper - Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Stopper - Weng Tuck (guest player)
Left-back - Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid - Speedy Hee

Within minutes, AFC already spurned 2 chances and continued to miss several chances.

ARFC finally opened the scoring in the 17th min. The ball was not cleared in their penalty area and Derrick’s shot took a cruel wicked deflection to completely wrong-foot their keeper. 1-0 and this was Derrick’s 61st ARFC goal.

77 seconds later, ARFC doubled its lead. Blackburn’s corner from the left sailed high over to the right and Earl cleverly headed the ball back into the 6-yard area. Derrick was there at the right spot and he simply nodded the ball home for his 62nd ARFC goal. 2-0

ARFC then continued to miss chances.

At this juncture, ARFC wanted to offer Weng Tuck to them to provide more competitiveness but strangely enough, they rejected!

Derrick completed his hat-trick after Hee robbed their player in ARFC’s half and sped away. Hee fed Alvin who in turn laid the ball out for the lurking Derrick on the right. Without hesitation, Derrick rifled the ball high into the net, giving their keeper no chance at all. 3-0 and this was Derrick’s 63rd ARFC goal and his 3rd-eevr hat-trick for ARFC.

After the end of the 1st half, the opponents finally asked for a player and Weng Tuck was offered.

Things did not change, however, and Derrick grabbed his 4th goal in the match. Again, Alvin, Hee and Blackburn combined to free Derrick whose mis-hit weak shot was somehow spilled by their keeper and trickled into the net. 4-0 and this was Derrick’s 64th ARFC goal, putting him on level terms with Toh.

ARFC still continued to miss chances.

Blackburn’s corner from the left was brilliantly met by Hee at the far post who connected with a header from a mere 0.77 mm from the goal-line. This headed goal was almost similar to Miroslav Klose’s headed goal against Saudi Arabia in Germany’s 8-0 win at the 2002 World Cup. 5-0 and this was Hee’s 89th ARFC goal.

Derrick then notched his 5th goal in the match when he slalomed his was past so many defenders before firing home his 65th ARFC goal. 6-0 and with this goal, Derrick overtook Toh to stay at 7th position in the ARFC’s Leading Scorers’ List.

This was also Derrick's 3rd hat-trick for ARFC and incredibly, he had scored 14 goals in these 3 hat-tricks.

ARFC still missed several chances.

ARFC rounded off the score with 77 seconds remaining. Blackburn did very well to dribble down the right touch-line before pulling the ball back for the grateful Alvin to place the ball home for his 199th ARFC goal. 7-0.

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Soon and Hee.

ARFC was in total control for the first 20 minutes but could not get an opening goal. The way ARFC was playing, however, it would only be a matter of time before the floodgates were opened.

True enough, the first goal duly arrived in the 25th min. Alvin fizzed a cross from the right and Derrick attempted a V. Sundram Moorthy’s move (in 1993 against Brunei) by attempting a bicycle-kick. However, Derrick forgot that he can only ride bicycle at East Coast Park with a babe and hence it was no surprise that he missed. Ah Di, who just came in for Soon, latched on the loose ball and shot home his 2nd ARFC goal. 1-0

7 mins later, a corner from Blackburn created chaos in the box and Earl reacted fastest to poke in his 2nd ARFC goal. 2-0

77 seconds later, ARFC put the result to bed. Following up on his impressive right-back showing last week, Jasper produced yet another stunning overlapping run and flashed a cross from right. Earl dummied their defender who was fooled and the ball fell kindly to Alvin. Naturally, Alvin gleefully shot home his 197th ARFC goal. 3-0

The opponents then pulled a goal back when their towering John Hunter striker headed home. 3-1.

7 mins into the restart, ARFC produced the move of the match.  Guoxiong passed to Alvin who held up the ball while Guoxiong galloped down the left flank ala Ryan Giggs. Alvin then backheeled the ball, ala Luis Garcia, that put Guoxiong through. With his left foot, Guoxiong whipped in a cross which saw Haron headed against the cross-bar. Unlucky and the miss meant Haron hit the woodwork for the 2nd successive match.

7 mins later, Jackson showcased his class when he won the ball in the middle, weaved past 4 defenders and hit a cross-field ball, ala Xabi Alonso and Jamie Redknapp, to Haron who was urking on the right. Haron was adamant not to hit the woodwork again and true enough, he nonchalantly lobbed over their bemused keeper for his 189th ARFC goal. 4-1

7 mins later, Derrick, as usual, was hacked down outside the box. While the opponents were still arranging the wall, Blackburn showed that his sharp mind when he quickly released Derrick who quickly dusted himself up from the deck. Derrick faced their keeper alone and he simply placed the ball home for his 60th ARFC goal. 5-1

The opponents then pulled 2 goals back. 5-3.

Alvin then had the last word. From Blackburn’s corner, Alvin connected with his shoulder ala R.Sasikumar’s goal in 1998, for his 198th ARFC goal. 6-3

Man-of-the-match is given to Jackson who is slowly but surely emerging as a huge talent. The only wish is that he can turn out for ARFC more often.

ARFC also put in a great team display.

Special mention to Soon who came despite having the full marathon later in the same day.
