Playing in high spirits after last week’s emphatic 9-0 victory at Anderson Sec Sch, ARFC completely dominated Dynamo FC 6-0 on the same ground in front of 77,777 fans.
ARFC welcomed back influential Sebastiano after his physical and mental-sapping search for the F$#@%&. Due to the school holidays, ARFC had to enlist two guest players, Raymond and Edwin, to play for us. ARFC started with dependable Jinzhong in goal, with the usual back-four of astute-reading sweeper Elvis, Towering Toh, determined Huiming and left-foot wizard Bernard. Versatile Kiat and unpredictable Blackburn were on the right and left flank respectively, with hardworking Tong partnering influential Sebastiano in the middle. Last week’s hat-trick heroes, powerful Alvin and talisman Derrick, formed the deadly duo in attack. In keeping with ARFC’s tradition, guest players Raymond and Edwin were the subs.
ARFC did not take long to open the scoring. In the 7th min, talisman Derrick threaded a superb heart-piercing ball into the box for the onrushing powerful Alvin who wasted no time and thumped in the opener for his 41st ARFC goal.
ARFC then wasted several goal scoring opportunities before doubling its lead. Raymond, who had came on to replace the tiring versatile Kiat, won the ball on the right flank and squared the ball to unpredictable Blackburn. Looking up, he chipped the ball in for hardworking Tong to plant a header beyond their keeper’s despairing dive to continue his red-hot scoring form.
ARFC again wasted more chances before the incompetent referee blew for the half-time break. 2-0.
In the second half, Dynamo FC seemed to come out with fire in their bellies and threatened to score. Indeed, their striker nearly pulled a goal back after a confusion in ARFC’s defence. Fortunately, versatile Kiat was on hand to clear the ball off the line. Lucky!!
This appeared to wake ARFC up from its complacency. The light drizzle also helped as it made the ball traveled more smoothly which suited ARFC’s passing game.
In the 57th min, hardworking Tong got his second goal in the match after his drive deflected off their keeper. 3-0 and it was his 19th ARFC goal.
Hardworking Tong was not done. 7 mins later, a cross from left-foot wizard resulted in talisman Derrick being pushed over clumsily by their defender in the 6-yard box, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Upstepped hardworking Tong to place the ball down the middle for his first-ever hat-trick for ARFC!!!! Excellent!!
By now, ARFC was on the riot. In the 67th min, Edwin won a header and the ball bounced into the box. In his haste to clear the ball, their panicky defender sliced the ball which wrong-footed his own keeper. Own goal!!
ARFC completed its scoring when powerful Alvin scored his second goal in the match for his 42nd ARFC goal. 6-0 is the final score.
With minutes to go, hardworking Tong was substituted to a deservingly standing ovation from the fans.
Hardworking Tong was naturally ecstatic when he spoke about his hat-trick feat after the match. “After playing football for close to 20 years, this was my first-ever hat-trick! I must thank all ARFC warriors for making this possible. As a goodwill gesture, I will be installing TVs for all ARFC warriors and their family members at absolutely FOC!! Just give me a call will do.”
