ARFC’s relentless pressing of opponents reaped dividends in the 7th min.  From outside the box, Chun Haw’s beautifully struck free-kick was headed for the top corner but their GK stuck out his arms to palm the ball away for a corner.

From the resultant corner, a series of passes saw the ball falling to Blackburn.  Living up to his unpredictable nature of play, Blackburn killed the ball with a brilliant first touch before unleashing a powerful cross-shot that caught everyone by surprise. Their GK could only watch in horror as the ball almost burst the net after it landed at the top corner.  1-0 and this was Blackburn’s 153rd ARFC goals.

ARFC extended its lead 2 mins later.  Still yet to recover from Blackburn’s wonder goal, the opponents was hit by a superb counter-attack move from ARFC.  Wayne got the ball from the centre line and passed to his right where Blackburn was lurking.  Blackburn sprayed a ball to Chun Haw on the left wing.  Looking up and spotting Wayne making a run into the box, Chun Haw nonchalantly hit the ball to Wayne with a pin-point pass.  With just their GK to beat, Wayne made up for his poor finishing the previous week when he slotted the ball home nicely to the far corner.  2-0 and this was Wayne’s 27th ARFC goal.

ARFC then nearly conceded a goal after a comical mix-up between Derrick and Darren.  The ball richocheted off Darren’s knee and wrong-footed Derrick who ha charged out.  The ball was headed towards goal and the opponents had shouted for ‘goal’ when Derrick made a leopard-like recovery to boot the ball away to safety.  Thankfully, the goalline technology was not used for this as the ball seemed to have already crossed the line.

ARFC then scored its 3rd goal of the match.  Off yet another beautiful move between Blackburn, Wayne and Chun Haw, Chun Haw found himself galloping into the box and easily dispatched the ball past their GK for his 59th ARFC goal. 3-0

Chun Haw then put the result to bed with another peach of a goal.  From outside the box, he bent a world-class curler for his 60th ARFC goal. 4-0

The opponents then pulled a goal back. Though Derrick saved their first penalty, the referee ordered a re-take which they converted. 4-1

In the 2nd half, Chun Haw quickly restored ARFC’s 4-goal margin when he turned creator this time.  From the left, Chun Haw floated a delicious ball into the box where How Meng and Larry were lurking.  Showing how much he has improved from his stint with a S-League club, How Meng trapped the ball with his thighs before moving in menacingly towards goal and slammed the ball past their GK.  5-1 and this was How Meng’s 11th ARFC goal, putting him on level terms with ex-ARFC legends Damian and Hwee, as well as with Ron on 11 goals.

The opponents then pulled a consolation goal near the end. 5-2.

Possible due to complacency, ARFC simply could not get its game going and after several missed half-chances, ARFC fell behind from the opponents’ first shot on target.  0-1

Blackburn’s corner from the right the grazed their cross-bar but no ARFC warrior was on hand to latch on the loose ball.
Guoxiong’s long lofted ball from his right-back position then put Haron through but the latter’s lifted ball was not high enough and was claimed by their GK.

ARFC then made a string of substitutions which paid dividends almost instantly.

Larry, the impressive diminutive playmaker, was the chief architect.  After receiving a ball from his elder brother Lucas, Larry played a quick return to Lucas who beat their off-side trap before firing home a stiff grounder.  1-1

ARFC then took the lead in the 27th min via a tried-and-tested source.  Sebastian’s world-class corner ala David Beckham saw who else but Toh charging in and thumped a firm header ala Sami Hyypia to almost burst the net.  2-1 and this was Toh’s 95th ARFC goal.

Larry then demonstrated his keen creative eyes when his slide-rule pass pierced right through the opponents’ hearts.  With only their GK to beat, however, Wayne dithered on the ball and saw his placing shot saved by their GK.

Wayne then missed another 2 golden chances.

In the 2nd half, ARFC continued pressing for more goals but had to be indebted to Derrick who pulled off a great save.

ARFC then extended its lead with arguably its move of the match.  Chun Haw, clearly the Man-of-the-Match, fizzed a sizzling diagonal cross-field grounder to the right touchline.  Blackburn picked up the ball and squared across.  Haron trapped the ball nicely before laying for the on-rushing Larry to fire in a shot which was superbly saved by their GK.   Chun Haw followed up and drilled a high ball through a sea of defenders for his 57th ARFC goal. 3-1

Derrick then produced the save of the season.  Spotting Derrick out of position, heir player chipped a high diagonal to Derrick’s back post.  Just when everybody was expecting a goal, Derrick took 2 steps back, stretched out his right arm and touched the ball to the cross-bar for a corner.  Totally world-class which is similar to Gordon Banks’ save against Pele in the 1970 World Cup match between England and Brazil.

ARFC then put the result to bed in the 70th min.  Seeing Chun Haw bringing the ball menacing towards their penalty box, Sebastian made himself available just outside their penalty box.  Chun Haw read Sebastian’s intention and played a quick one-two with Sebastian who quickly returned the pass.  With a bit of luck, their defender could not clear the ball and Chun Haw then side-footed the ball home for his 58th ARFC goal. 4-1.

With this goal, Chun Haw has overtaken ARFC’s Best player Khim’s 57 goals.

ARFC then missed a couple of chances and had to be contended with a 3-goal margin victory.
