"New-signing" Kenny capped come-back with double

ARFC started its Silver League campaign on a winning note after notching a comfortable 6-1 victory over Moulmein CSC.

ARFC officially welcomed back Kenny after his horrendous knee injury and more good news were to follow with Kenny netted a fine double in his come-back match. His goals were witnessed by his beau Joy who simply bring joy (pun intended) to Kenny. With his goals, pace and guile, Kenny is just like a new $77 million signing for ARFC.

Elvis also made his appearance after fatherly duty.

Special credit to Derrick also for volunteering to be keeper after both custodians, Jinzhong and How Meng, dropped out of the match.

This is the starting line-up:

Keeper             -           Talisman Derrick
Right-back       -           Marauding Guoxiong
Sweeper           -           Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Stopper            -           Combative Ron
Left-back         -           Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid          -           Sublime Khim

Centre-mid       -           Influential Sebastian
Right-mid         -           Unpredictable Blackburn
Striker              -           Powerful Alvin (captain)
Striker              -           Speedy Hee

Subs:

Hard-man Tjioe
Nippy Kenny

Absent:

ARFC Scoring Legend Haron
Towering Toh
Composed Jackson
Dependable Jinzhong
Wonder Wayne
Skillful Weilit
Resolute Jasper
Impeccable How Meng
Talented Chun Haw
Steely Tze Ern
Mean-machine Hock
Long-throw specialist Norman
Precocious En Dian

ARFC started brightly with some crisp passing but was unable to find a break-through.

Tragedy struck in the 7th min when the opponents scored with their first attempt on goal after breaking ARFC’s off-side trap.

ARFC responded immediately with Guoxiong almost doing a Rafael da Silva moment (goal against QPR the night before) when he let fly a powerful shot from almost the same distance and spot as Rafael but his missile just missed the stanchion by a mere 0.77 cm.

Hee was next to miss when he turned superbly but his low diagonal shot was just 0.77 cm wide of the right post.

Alvin became the next culprit when he was put clear by Hee and faced their keeper one-on-one. To the amazement of the whole world, he sliced his shot wide and for that incredible miss, he received the “hair-dryer treatment” (worse than Alex Ferguson’s one) from both Ron and Blackburn.

To the warriors’ credit, they did not allow their heads to drop due to the misses and duly equalsied in the 17th min.

As usual, ARFC’s best player of all time Khim was the architect when he delivered a precise ball to Alvin at the left. Alvin sent in a low cross and Hee continued his great form when he ghosted in from deep and lifted the ball over their keeper ala Thierry Henry for his 87th ARFC goal. 1-1

ARFC doubled its lead 77 seconds later courtesy of yet another scud missile-like throw-in from Darren. His throw-in bounced deep into the 6-yard box and their keeper somehow pushed the ball onto the cross-bar. The rebound fell kindly to Alvin who simply touched the ball in for his 189th ARFC goal. 2-1

Kenny then announced his return with a bang. From Blackburn’s throw-in, Khim trapped the ball ala Dennis Bergkamp and instead of shooting, he laid the ball to Kenny who ran in from deep ala Paul Scholes and thundered in a violent shot that went right through the palms of their keeper for his 12th ARFC goal. 3-1

Hee had a chance to score but his weak hit was cleared off the line.

In the 2nd half, Ron took over from Derrick but it was short-lived after his finger was injured by their forward and Derrick returned to goal.

ARFC continued pressing and demonstrated so many fantastic passing moves and support for each other. The passing was also sharp ala Liverpool in the 80s that the opponents were often caught chasing shadows.

It was from such a move that ARFC scored its 4th goal in the match. After some crisp passing between Sebastian, Tjioe and Kenny, Guoxiong was sent down the right flank. Guoxiong fizzed in a brilliant cross ala David Beckham and Alvin stretched out his right foot and juts managed to prod the ball home (though their keeper got a touch) for his 190th ARFC goal. 4-1

By now, the opponents were dead and buried and it was just a matter of time before ARFC grabbed more goals.

Kenny then capped his come-back with his 2nd goal of the match. From Tjioe’s ball, Kenny simply unleashed a powerful shot that dipped over their keeper for his 13th ARFC goal. 5-1 and with this goal, Kenny move up on level terms with Elvis at 13 goals.

From Derrick’s goal-kick ala Pepe Reina, Alvin won the challenge with their “Yakubu-like” stopper who was taller and much bigger than our Toh. Sprinting clear, Alvin scored with his outside right foot for his 191st ARFC goal. 6-1

This was also Alvin’s 18th hat-trick for ARFC.

Kenny had chance to notch his first-ever hat-trick for ARFC from a free-kick just 0.77 cm outside the box for a foul on him. However, his scorching shot went to row Z.

This was a match where every warrior played very well and it would be unfair to single out any warrior for Man-of-the-Match award. This was truly a team performance.

Hee, Haron and Alvin in stellar form in ARFC's victory

Resuming its playing calendar, ARFC showed no signs of ill-effects from all the bak kwa, pineapple tarts, love-letters, etc etc…by holding off a determined and strong challenge of Carmichael FC 4-2 on the back of an effervescent performance from Hee and the potent combination of Haron and Alvin.

This is the starting line-up:

Keeper             -           Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back       -           Marauding Guoxiong
Sweeper           -           Composed Jackson
Stopper            -           Towering Toh
Left-back         -           Unpredictable Blackburn (captain)
Left-mid          -           Speedy Hee
Centre-mid       -           Combative Ron
Centre-mid       -           Influential Sebastian
Right-mid         -           Dynamic Soon
Striker              -           Powerful Alvin
Striker              -           ARFC Scoring Legend Haron

Subs:

Talisman Derrick (late)
Unbeatable Darren (spectator only)

 Absent:

Wonder Wayne
Skillful Weilit
Resolute Jasper
Hard-man Tjioe
Impeccable How Meng
Talented Chun Haw
Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Sublime Khim
Steely Tze Ern
Mean-machine Hock
Long-throw specialist Norman
Precocious En Dian
Nippy Kenny

Despite missing a clutch of warriors, ARFC still come up of the blocks explosively and took the lead in the 7th min.

A brilliant through ball from Ron saw Alvin scuppering away from their defence line all the way to the left. Drawing their keeper to him, Alvin spotted Haron coming in from deep and squared the ball across for Haron to easily roll the ball (speed about 77 cm/hour) into the empty net for his 184th ARFC goal. 1-0

The opponents almost equalized from a corner but Guoxiong hacked the ball away at the goal-line ala Ashley Cole.

ARFC soon doubled its lead. From a throw-in, Alvin was pressured by their defender and the ball went loose. Soon continued his run from outside the box and met the ball instinctively and fired home with his side-foot for his 46th ARFC goal. 2-0

ARFC could have killed off the match minutes later. Sebastian mimicked Ron’s earlier assist by prodding a similar ball to Alvin who was clear at the left. However, Alvin took too long with the ball and instead of passing to Haron who was also free on the right, the ball was cleared.

The opponents then pulled a goal back. 2-1

In the 2nd half, Sebastian broke clear on the right bye-line but his cross-shot struck the cross-bar.

In another corner, Sebastian played a quick diagonal low ball to Blackburn whose ferocious shot was turned goalwards by Toh but his shot was blocked.

Derrick then struck the cross-bar with a venomous shot.

By now, ARFC warriors were tiring and the opponents also had 9 substitutes on their bench as compared to only one warrior substitute for ARFC.  Naturally, the opponents piled on the pressure but Jackson came to ARFC’s rescue with 3 crucial blocks.

After absorbing their pressure, ARFC broke clear after yet another link-up play between Alvin and Haron. Alvin held up the ball and played Haron through down the right flank. Showing nifty footwork, Haron slalomed his way down the flank and fizzled in a low cross for Hee, who came from behind, to rifle the ball into the roof of the net for his 86th ARFC goal. What a superb team goal! 3-1

The opponents were now deflated and ARFC soon added a 4th goal. Soon played a grounder to Sebastian who was just inside his own half. Sebastian lifted the ball off the ground and thumped the ball high into the area just outside their penalty box. Guoxiong then showed his superior fitness after his referee course by sprinting all the way from his right-back position and pressured their defender. Under intense pressure, their defender missed the clearance and Guoxiong gleefully played a small square ball to Alvin who nonchalantly chipped over their keeper ala Matthew Le Tissier for his 188th ARFC goal. 4-1

With the victory wrapped up, ARFC loosened a bit and conceded another goal. 4-2

Men-of-the Match are jointly given to Hee (for his relentless pressure on opponents), Haron (for his classy touches and moves) and Alvin (for his dominant Drogba-like display).

Fantasy Team edged out Dream Team in ARFC Reunion Match thriller...

In the ARFC Reunion Match played at the magnificent artificial pitch 1 at The Cage@Sports Park, the Fantasy Team led by Alvin narrowly defeated Haron's Dream Team by the score-line of 2-1.

Fantasy Team warriors present: Alvin, How Meng, Derrick, Darren, Guoxiong, Tze Ern, Soon, Wayne, Jackson, Weilit, Chun Haw, Jasper, Kenny and Norman.

Dream Team warriors present: Haron, Kiat, Eng Lai, Huiming, David, Guigui, Tong, Sebastian, Blackburn, Khim, Tjioe, Toh, Hee, Elvis, Bernard, Jinzhong, Robin, Hock and Boon

Prior to the start, Sebastian gave a brief introduction of the ARFC pioneer warriors - Huiming, David, Robin, Guigui, Hock and Boon. David then gave away the "ang bao door gift" to all warriors present, while the rest of the pioneers gave out scorers prizes as follows:

50 goals - Toh (given by Boon), Derrick (given by Hock) and Khim (given by Huiming)
100 goals - Blackburn (given by Guigui)
150 goals - Alvin (given by Robin) and Haron (given by Su and Fiqah)

Fantasy Team got off to a dream start in the 7th min when the Dream Team was still "dreaming". From a freekick routine, Alvin and Wayne combined to set up Derrick who planted a header beyond the despairing dive of Jinzhong. 1-0

Fantasy Team soon doubled its lead after a through pass saw Alvin breaking clear of the off-side trap and side-footed the ball home. 2-0

Fantasy Team proceeded to miss a few chances while Dream Team were restricted to a few half-chances.

In the 2nd half, Dream Team came out determined to reduce the deficit but Fantasy Team still held the upper hand.

Dream Team then pulled a goal back in the 57th min when Hock's stinging drive from outside the box was parried by How Meng. Haron reacted quickest to the loose ball by volleying the ball home. 2-1

Dream Team then piled on the pressure in the later stages of the match and came close on a few occasions but could not find the net.

Fantasy Team also has lots of chances to close out the match but were led down by poor finishing, brilliant saves of Jinzhong and off-side traps.

Man-of-the-Match for Dream Team is obviously Khim with Huiming and Toh coming very close. For the Fantasy Team, Darren is the Man-of-the-Match with Derrick and Alvin closely behind him.

ARFC would like to express its appreciation to all for taking the time out to play in this match, generous contribution to ARFC's coffers and playing the hearts out even though it is just a match between ARFC warriors. Particularly, ARFC would also like to thank all wives and children for braving the scorching sun to support this joyous occasion.........

77-star display from Darren could not prevent ARFC loss

Playing under constant drizzle at Orchid Park SS, ARFC simply could not get its touches right throughout the match and slumped to a 0-1 defeat.

Things were pretty even in the opening exchanges though ARFC had the better chances.  In the 7th min, Blackburn showed remarkable skill to set up Chun Haw who turned but his side-footed shot hit the upright.

Wayne, Hee and Soon then came on for Alvin, Chun Haw and Haron respectively.

In the 27th min, Wayne produced a sharp snap shot that was well parried by their impressive keeper.

Jinzhong then replaced Tjioe while Weilit soon took over Sebastian.

ARFC then trailed 0-1 after an error.

In the 2nd half, ARFC pressed and pressed (x 7) but was unable to grab the equalizer.

Just 7 mins into the half, Alvin wasted a golden opportunity when he was played well through by Wayne but Alvin’s heavy touch let him down.

In the 67th min, Sebastian lofted a long ball down the right and Jasper produced a superb over-lapping run ala Dani Alves and crossed into the box. Alvin latched on but his shot was cleared to Chun Haw whose fierce shot was also blocked by the sea of opponents in the box.

Toh then could not get clean connection from 2 headers from corners.

In the end, ARFC lost 0-1, though a bit undeservingly.

Man-of-the-Match is given to Darren.

Chun Haw equalled Alvin's hat-trick record in opening win in 2013

Playing its first match in 2013, ARFC and Chun Haw continued their scorching form by notching its 3 successive victories and 3rd successive hat-tricks respectively in as many matches with a hard-fought but thoroughly well-deserved 5-2 win over a typical determined Myanmar nationals team at the very poor Bukit View Sec pitch.

The match was once again witnessed by Tracie (Guoxiong’s beau) who continues to look very pretty in her pregnant state.

Special credit to all who turned up due to the very last-min switch in venue and kick-off time. Also special praise to Derrick who volunteered to be keeper for the entire match

This is the starting line-up:

Keeper - Talisman Derrick
Right-back - Resolute Jasper
Sweeper - Composed Jackson
Stopper - Towering Toh
Left-back - Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid - Skillful Weilit
Centre-mid - Dynamic Soon
Centre-mid - Unpredictable Blackburn (captain)
Right-mid - Marauding Guoxiong
Striker - Powerful Alvin
Striker - Talented Chun Haw

Subs:

Combative Ron
Influential Sebastian
Hard-man Tjioe
Speedy Hee

 Absent:

Impeccable How Meng
Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
ARFC Scoring Legend Haron
Sublime Khim
Dependable Jinzhong
Wonder Wayne
Steely Tze Ern
Mean-machine Hock
Long-throw specialist Norman
Precocious En Dian
Nippy Kenny

Things started on a bad note just 377 seconds into the match when Chun Haw took a nasty kick at his shin and had to leave the field for treatment and Hee came into replace him and immediately created ARFC’s first goal.

Darren and Alvin combined brilliantly at the left flank which saw Darren swinging in a long looping ball from the left to the far post. Hee was right on cue and headed the ball back across goal and Blackburn demonstrated that he might have lost the pace but certainly not the quick thinking. Before the ball reached their defender from Hee’s knock-down, Blackburn nipped the ball away, swiveled and stroked the ball home for his 121st ARFC goal. 1-0

ARFC then conceded a goal. 1-1

Sebastian, Tjioe and Ron then came on for Soon, Blackburn and Alvin respectively.

Tjioe turned back the clock and brought every warrior and fan back to the ITE AMK era when he was a box-to-box all-action midfielder. In quick succession, Tjioe picked up 3 successive loose balls from outside their penalty area and fired in shots that flew just wide.

Sebastian also tried to lob their keeper on 3 occasions but to no avail.

In the second half, ARFC soon fell behind. 1-2

Ron and Sebastian then cajoled ARFC into action with their constant “hair-dryer treatment” on the field which soon paid dividends as ARFC equalized again thanks to Hee’s probing run at the left. Hee received the ball, sped away and was crudely fouled. However, the impressive referee waved play on as the ball was picked up by Blackburn. Without delay, Blackburn squared the ball low to Chun Haw, who ignoring Sebastian’s shout to pass to him on the right, turned and placed the ball nicely into the bottom left corner for his 16th ARFC goal. 2-2

Clearly galvanised by the goal, ARFC duly regain the lead with yet another goal from Chun Haw. In the mirror-image of the earlier goal, Soon was fouled on the right but the referee waved play on. The ball was passed to Chun Haw who despatched the ball home for his 17th ARFC goal.  3-2

Mins later, ARFC put the result to bed when Blackburn’s right-wing cross sailed over their keeper to nestle nicely at the top left-hand corner. 4-2 and this was Blackburn’s 122nd ARFC goal.

By now, the opponents were totally deflated and defeated and ARFC planted the final nail in their coffin with a truly great team goal. From the right back position in our half, Jasper passed to Sebastian who was just 2.7 metres ahead. Sebastian returned the pass to Jasper who moved up. Jasper then exchanged wall-passes with Soon who was at the right. Soon then passed to Sebastian who had now moved up to be level with Soon. Soon then moved inward while Jasper continued his run down the right. Soon then exchange wall-passes with Jasper before releasing the ball down the right for Jasper. Jasper marauded forward, looked up and delivered a venomous cross. Alvin took aim but kicked thin air but thankfully Chun Haw was behind Alvin. Trapping the ball, Chun Haw crashed the ball home for his 3rd consecutive hat-trick in 3 consecutive matches and his 18th ARFC goal. 5-2

With this goal, Chun Haw also equaled Alvin’s record of scoring 3 hat-tricks in 3 successive matches. These are the details:

Alvin:

04 Mar 2007 – ARFC won 9-1
11 Mar 2007 – ARFC won 6-0
08 Apr 2007 – ARFC won 7-2

Chun Haw:

23 Dec 2012 – ARFC won 6-2
30 Dec 2012 – ARFC won 5-1
06 Jan 2013 – ARFC won 5-2

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Ron and Toh.
