Influential Sebastiano's comments

Though talisman Derrick was the MOM, I wish to put on record that all ARFC warriors, especially the defence, did very well in this match. To come back from one goal down and snatch a victory was not easy, especially against this strong opponent.

I also vow to improve my delivery from corners/free-kicks which has ben way below my own expected standard for the past 2 matches....

ARFC in come from behind victory

In a match played under drizzling rain at the magnificent artificial pitch at Tampines SAFRA, ARFC came from behind to defeat a vey strong Yellow Submarine 2-1 with goals from hard-man Tjioe and ARFC scoring legend Haron.

Half an hour before the match, the heavy downpour almost forced the match to be called off. Fortunately, the weather turned for the better though it still drizzled. Despite so, the ever-faithful 77,777 ARFC fans still packed the stadium as it was announced through the local papers that ARFC scoring legend Haron would be still his comeback from his injury. Indeed, he was to be the pivotal for ARFC’s victory later on.

Much to the fans’ disappointment, however, he was late for the match due to the jam. ARFC thus started with guest-player Robin as GK, determined Huiming and reliable David as right and left back respectively, astute-reading sweeper Elvis and towering Toh at the heart of defence. Influential Sebastian partnered hard-man Tjioe in the middle, with sublime Khim and guest-player Raymond on the left and right flank respectively. As powerful Alvin was also late, talisman Derrick and unpredictable Blackburn were the forwards. Dependable Jinzhong, who was available in the last minute, was the only sub.

The opening proceedings saw both sides even out. However, their speedy right winger/striker was causing problems for reliable David with his speed and ARFC has no choice but to switch determined Huiming over to counter his speed. This move reapd dividends as their player was neutralized.

Returning from a long lay-off, reliable David soon tired out and as replaced by dependable Jinzhong in the 20th min. Though usually a keeper, dependable Jinzhong was to put in a competent display at right-back. Barely minutes after reliable David’s exi, determined Huiming’s boots went “crocodile mouth” and was replaced by reliable David!! Luckily, ARFC scoring legend Haron arrived to replace the latter, prompting the crowd to rise to their feet.

Despite some penetrative forays down the right flank by both Raymond and talisman Derrick, ARFC was not able to make a break-through as the forwards were wither missing or arrived late in the box. Hard-man Tjioe though came up with a few power shots but to no avail. ARFC’s defence, again led by the imperious astute-reading sweeper Elvis, managed to neutralize their attacks with several good off-side traps.

The first half ended goal-less which was a huge surprise since it has been a long time since ARFC did not score in the first half.

The second half saw talisman Derrick replacing Raymond, determined Huiming replaced unpredictable Blackburn at left-back, and powerful Alvin and ARFC scoring legend Haron paired up front. This forward line soon provided more thrust and penetration, and ARFC nearly opened the scoring but missed some chances.

Disaster struck in the 57th min. A long hopeful punt from the opponent into our penalty box saw their player reached the ball ahead of our keeper. He then slotted the ball into the empty net despite the valiant effort of determined Huiming who tried to clear the ball away. 0-1.

Luckily, ARFC did not panic and equalized 7 mins later. A series of one-twos between ARFC scoring legend Haron and hard-man Tjioe saw the latter with the ball in the penalty box. Though being heavily closed down by 2 defenders, hard-man Tjioe showed immense composure and “tone-tjioe” (no pun intended) the ball home. This was his 35th ARFC goal.

In the 70th min, reliable David replaced dependable Jinzhong at right-back and unpredictable Blackburn took over sublime Khim who suffered an injury. These 2 substitutions paid off handsomely as both combined to set up a world-class winning goal. 7 minutes after his arrival, reliable David won the ball on the right and switched the ball elegantly to unpredictable Blackburn on the left flank. Receiving the ball, he switched the ball expertly back to the right where ARFC scoring legend Haron was lurking. With one exquisite touch, he looked up, took aim and thundered a shot that dipped in wickedly at the last moment to beat their otherwise impressive keeper for his 120th ARFC goal.

His goal had the entire crowd grasping unbelievably and even the commentator Martin Taylor was stunned for 7 seconds before exclaiming that “it was absolutely world-class! Pure magic!”. The goal also signaled that he has not lost his unparalleled scoring touch despite being out with a pulled hamstring a month ago.

ARFC then held out and could have won by a bigger margin if not for some more wasteful finishing, particularly influential Sebastiano’s last few minute’s “horrible Zulkifli-Kartoyoho-type-balloon” after being presented with a open chance by talisman Derrick.

Speaking to the 100 FHM Girls Next Door contestants, Man-of-the-Match (MOM) talisman Derrick, who consistently brushed aside their left-back throughout the entire match, was beaming with the victory over such a strong opponent “I hope that my performance today will win over ARFC fans after some insipid displays earlier in the season. To celebrate this MOM award, I will be giving a 77% discount on every renovation package by my company to all fans. Just give me a call for a quotation. No obligation hor….”

Hardworking Tong stars in ARFC's 6-0 victory over Dynamo FC

Playing in high spirits after last week’s emphatic 9-0 victory at Anderson Sec Sch, ARFC completely dominated Dynamo FC 6-0 on the same ground in front of 77,777 fans.

ARFC welcomed back influential Sebastiano after his physical and mental-sapping search for the F$#@%&. Due to the school holidays, ARFC had to enlist two guest players, Raymond and Edwin, to play for us. ARFC started with dependable Jinzhong in goal, with the usual back-four of astute-reading sweeper Elvis, Towering Toh, determined Huiming and left-foot wizard Bernard. Versatile Kiat and unpredictable Blackburn were on the right and left flank respectively, with hardworking Tong partnering influential Sebastiano in the middle. Last week’s hat-trick heroes, powerful Alvin and talisman Derrick, formed the deadly duo in attack. In keeping with ARFC’s tradition, guest players Raymond and Edwin were the subs.

ARFC did not take long to open the scoring. In the 7th min, talisman Derrick threaded a superb heart-piercing ball into the box for the onrushing powerful Alvin who wasted no time and thumped in the opener for his 41st ARFC goal.

ARFC then wasted several goal scoring opportunities before doubling its lead. Raymond, who had came on to replace the tiring versatile Kiat, won the ball on the right flank and squared the ball to unpredictable Blackburn. Looking up, he chipped the ball in for hardworking Tong to plant a header beyond their keeper’s despairing dive to continue his red-hot scoring form.

ARFC again wasted more chances before the incompetent referee blew for the half-time break. 2-0.

In the second half, Dynamo FC seemed to come out with fire in their bellies and threatened to score. Indeed, their striker nearly pulled a goal back after a confusion in ARFC’s defence. Fortunately, versatile Kiat was on hand to clear the ball off the line. Lucky!!

This appeared to wake ARFC up from its complacency. The light drizzle also helped as it made the ball traveled more smoothly which suited ARFC’s passing game.

In the 57th min, hardworking Tong got his second goal in the match after his drive deflected off their keeper. 3-0 and it was his 19th ARFC goal.

Hardworking Tong was not done. 7 mins later, a cross from left-foot wizard resulted in talisman Derrick being pushed over clumsily by their defender in the 6-yard box, giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Upstepped hardworking Tong to place the ball down the middle for his first-ever hat-trick for ARFC!!!! Excellent!!

By now, ARFC was on the riot. In the 67th min, Edwin won a header and the ball bounced into the box. In his haste to clear the ball, their panicky defender sliced the ball which wrong-footed his own keeper. Own goal!!

ARFC completed its scoring when powerful Alvin scored his second goal in the match for his 42nd ARFC goal. 6-0 is the final score.

With minutes to go, hardworking Tong was substituted to a deservingly standing ovation from the fans.

Hardworking Tong was naturally ecstatic when he spoke about his hat-trick feat after the match. “After playing football for close to 20 years, this was my first-ever hat-trick! I must thank all ARFC warriors for making this possible. As a goodwill gesture, I will be installing TVs for all ARFC warriors and their family members at absolutely FOC!! Just give me a call will do.”

ARFC in crushing 9-0 victory

Break due to Lunar New Year

ARFC will be taking a two to three weeks' break due to the Lunar New Year.

On behalf of ARFC, here's wishing all ARFC warriors and their loved ones a happy and prosperous lunar new year....

Huat Ah!!!!!

Hard-working Tong inspires ARFC win

In an exciting match played at Ahmad Ibrahim SS on 03 Feb 08 at 1500 hrs in front of the watching 7,777 fans, ARFC rallied to beat a spirited Chinese team 3-2 with a superb double strike from hardworking Tong.

Due to the mid-week exertions at the Futsal ground at East Coast, versatile Kiat Gulam had to pull out as his stubbed toes have yet to be recovered. ARFC scoring legend Haron also pulled his hamstring playing for his employer on Monday. Talisman Derrick also “put aeroplane” and unpredictable Blackburn was late for the match, leaving ARFC with only 10 warriors on the pitch. Coincidentally, the opponents also had similar number of players and so it was even-steven.

As usual, Dependable Jinzhong was in goal with astute-reading sweeper Elvis, Towering Toh, determined Huiming and surprisingly, influential Sebastiano at left back. Speedy Hee and left-foot wizard Bernard was at the right and left flank respectively, with hardworking Tong and hardman Tjioe at the middle. Powerful Alvin was the sole forward.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half and chances were at a premium. Powerful Alvin had a couple of half-chances but his left foot left him down. ARFC defence also put in a competent display with its clever off-side play, leaving dependable Jinzhong with almost nothing to do. Speedy Hee also harassed their left-back no end, and broke down on the right flank on several occasions ala Andrei Kanchelski.

ARFC took the lead in the 27th min. Hardworking Tong won the ball on the right flank about 47.77 metres out, looked up and spotted their keeper way off his line. In an execution of perfect timing, power and accuracy ala David Beckham’s goal against Wimbledon in 1997, he expertly lobbed over their back-pedalling keeper for his 15th ARFC goal. His superb goal had all the warrior and fans wild. 1-0.

Reliable David soon replaced the fast-tiring influential Sebastiano. The half-time whistle came and the score remained 1-0.

Just 7 minutes into the second half, the opponents equalized in a rather bizarre fashion as the shot was from an acute angle. 1-1.

7 mins later, ARFC suffered a huge blow when the highly impressive speedy Hee was badly hurt in yet another sprinting run down the right flank. Thankfully, his left knee was only swollen like a pig trotter and there was no twist or breakage. Influential Sebastiano replaced him.

Unpredictable Blackburn then arrived to replace powerful Alvin as the forward. However, his first contribution was a misplaced pass which the opponents quickly counter-attacked and scored their 2nd goal. 1-2 now and ARFC was in danger of suffering its first defeat since 21 Oct 2007.

ARFC quickly increased its tempo in an attempt to get back into the match.
In the 67th min, Towering Toh almost equalized but his powerful header off influential Sebastiano’s corner was superb tipped over by their keeper.

Powerful Alvin then replaced left-foot wizard Bernard and unpredictable Blackburn switched to the left midfield. This change brought dividends as ARFC soon equalized.

Off a corner, the ball was scrambled to hard-man Tjioe who shrugged aside 2 defenders closing down on him and swept home a powerful shot just inside the penalty box. The shot was so powerful that it eluded everyone including their stranded keeper. It was hard-man Tjioe’s 34th ARFC goal. His goal also reminded everyone of his famed power-packed shots that was renowned amongst the fans.

ARFC grabbed its winner with 7 minutes remaining. Hard-man Tjioe was fouled on the right flank and upstepped influential Sebastiano with his free-kick. The free-kick was whipped in to the danger area just outside the 6-yard box and towering Toh, hard-man Tjioe and hard-working Tong all dashed in. To everyone’s surprise, hardworking Tong won the ball and nodded home into the bottom left corner of the goal for his 16th ARFC goal. 3-2!!!!

Speaking to reporters after the match, Man-of-the-Match hardworking Tong was over the moon and hoped that every match could be played at Ahmad Ibrahim SS as it was his “home ground” since he is staying just a few blocks behind.
