Guoxiong and Tjioe shone in 7-3 victory

 Playing its 8^th match of 2026, ARFC led from start to finish to dismiss the tough challenge of the Republic Polytechnic staff team 6-3 on 17 Aug 2026 at 7 pm at the Republic Polytechnic pitch. 

 

ARFC gave debuts to Chow Lip Sen and Jovin Chan (both friends of Chun Haw), while both Nova and Jeremy were officially handed their ARFC shirts though both had already played for ARFC on previous occasions as guest players. 

 

The match was played in three 30-min intervals.

ARFC made a bright start with several chances created but Haron’s chance particularly caught the eyes.

 

Guoxiong, who is easily the Man-of-the-Match, made his way down the right flank and passed a grounder to Haron who was standing at the top of the penalty.  Instinctively, Haron lifted the ball up with his right foot, ala Fernando Torres (the Liverpool version), before shaping his body to hit a venomous volley that looked to have dipped under the cross bar till their GK had other ideas by tipping the ball over for a corner. Unlucky but what an elegant move from Haron.

 

ARFC was not to be denied 7 mins later.  Tjioe picked up a wild clearance from their GK outside the box, took a good touch before firing in a rocket that rattled in off the bar that gave their recovering GK no chance at all!  

 

1-0    and this was Tjioe’s 74^th ARFC goal.

 

Tze Ern and Wayne then combined to pressure the opponents down the left flank and Haron showed great reading by running in and picked up the loose ball in the box.  Spotting Guoxiong free on the right, Haron stretched and pushed the ball to Guoxiong who emulated Tjioe’s goal by similarly drilling in a high diagonal to the far left corner that had goal screaming all the way.

 

2-0 and this was Guoxiong’s 39^th ARFC goal.

 

Guoxiong then made another inviting cross and Wayne chested the ball down perfectly but his swivelled volley was well-saved by their GK.

 

ARFC then allowed the opponents to pull a goal back. 2-1 now.

 

In the second interval, Sebastian made sweeping changes and all substitutes came on.

 

Kerwin then extended ARFC’s lead when he chased a long ball down the left side, won the ball ahead of their GK and dribbled past him.  Displaying great composure, Kerwin then calmly slotted into the far bottom left corner.

 

3-1 and this was Kerwin’s 18^th ARFC goal.

 

Jeremy then produced a world-class save when the opponents hit a high ball that looked to be dipping under the cross bar.  Though he saw the ball rather late, Jeremy arched back and tipped the ball over the bar, ala Gordon Banks’ save against Pele in the 1970 World Cup.   Totally world-class save!

 

ARFC then conceded 2 goals.  3-3 now!

 

In the last interval, ARFC continued its dominance and regained the lead from the corner on the left.  Sebastian whipped in a vicious corner and Wayne leaped to glance the ball into the top right hand corner, ala Juergen Klinsmann, despite their defender standing on the line and tried to clear.   Fantastic headed goal from Wayne!

 

4-3 and this was Wayne’s 63^rd ARFC goal.

 

Wayne then grabbed his brace 7 mins later.  Darren combined well with Tze Ern down the left and galloped down the left byline before drilling in a low ball across goal.  Their GK spilled the ball and Wayne was the biggest beneficiary when he tapped into the empty net.

 

5-3 and this was Wayne’s 64^th ARFC goal.

 

Jovin then scored on his debut when he exchanged wall passes with Kerwin before toe-poking hard into the net.   Brilliant goal!

 

6-3 now.

 

Delon then rounded off a good performance when he played a 1-2 with Wei Lit, who played well that day, before slotting past their despairing GK.

 

7-3 and this was Delon’s 3^rd ARFC goal.

 

Guoxiong is easily the Man-of-the-Match for both his defensive and offensive efforts, with Tjioe a close second for also his defensive and offensive work.
