Eng Lai hit stunner in 6-0 win

With Alvin at the helm in the absence of Sebastian who was away, ARFC whipped its opponents 6-0 which featured 6 different goal-scorers!

ARFC fired the first salvo straight from the kick-off. Darren floated a delicious-looking cross into the box which saw Kenny amazingly meting the ball with much gusto.  Alas, his looping header sailed just wide of the goal.

ARFC opened the scoring in the 3^rd min after Khim’s inch-perfect through ball saw Kenny rounding their GK. Kenny was already celebrating his goal but their GK somehow managed to dive and save Kenny’s shot.  The rebound fell kindly to Alvin who reached the ball ahead of their GK and turned him before lobbing into the far top corner.  1-0 and this was Alvin’s 325^th ARFC goal.

ARFC doubled its lead about 77 seconds later.  Kenny, Alvin, Soon and Khim pressed the opponents straight from the re-start ala Liverpool which totally caught them off-guard.  Alvin won the ball on the left, brought the ball inwards in his trade-mark move before squaring the ball across goal.  Guoxiong was the biggest beneficiary when he tapped the ball home for his 36^th ARFC goal.  2-0

In the 10^th min, Eng Lai scored ARFC’s goal of the match.  Bringing the ball from defence, Eng Lai showed great vision when he spotted their GK off his line.  With great accuracy ala Ronald Koeman, Eng Lai let fly a stunner from almost 40 metres out which saw the ball bounced once in front of and over their GK.  Fantastic goal!!!  3-0 and this was Eng Lai’s 8^th ARFC goal.

This was also Eng Lai’s 2^nd goal for ARFC in 2019.   Incidentally, Eng Lai’s goal was also the 100^th ARFC goal in 2019 (for the Open Team only).

In the 25^th min, in a move similar to Andrew Robertson, Darren drilled a through ball down the left for Alvin to chase (ala Mane).  Again, Alvin brought the ball inwards, with Guoxiong and Hee drawing opponents away, and fired in a shot that hit the left upright.  Hee was there to pick up the rebound and walked the ball into the net.  4-0 and this was Hee’s 117^th ARFC goal.

In the 2^nd half, ARFC scored its 5^th goal of the match with How Meng the chief architect.  From the left, How Meng dribbled past 3 defenders before unselfishly passing to Hee who was running in from deep.  Hee met the ball first-time but their GK was equal to Hee’s brilliant shot.   Again, the rebound fell kindly to ARFC and Khim was there to side-foot the ball home 10 cm from the goalline.  5-0 and this was Khim’s 62^nd ARFC goal.

In the 75^th min, Weilit had their defender in knots with his mazy dribble and was hacked down in the box.  How Meng stepped up to send their GK the wrong way for his 15^th ARFC goal.  6-0.

With this goal, How Meng is tied with Elvis, Ron and Weilit at 15 ARFC goals.
