ARFC brought down to earth in exciting match
Playing at the Tampines SAFRA pitch for the
3rd consecutive week, ARFC’s 4-match winning streak was halted by
the Zouk team who triumphed 4-3 in a pulsating match with end-to-end action
throughout.
ARFC was supported by Wayne (injured), Boon
and Brendan.

ARFC was put under intense pressure from Zouk but held out.
ARFC took the lead in the 17th min from a corner. Chun Haw’s
corner was swung high to the far post and Alvin headed a low ball back across
goal. Showing Robbie Fowler-like predatory instinct, Toh swopped in with a
brilliant left foot shot to beat their keeper. 1-0 and this was Toh’s first
goal in 2013!
ARFC then conceded a goal. 1-1
ARFC then conceded another goal 1-2
ARFC equalized after Soon’s over-hit pass down the right flank looked to
be picked up by their left back who passed back to their keeper. However,
Guoxiong had other ideas as he continued his lung-busting run and amazingly, he
reached the ball ahead of their keeper. He nipped the ball away from him and
easily rolled the bal into the empty net for his 17th ARFC goal. 2-2
However, ARFC conceded another goal. 2-3
ARFC then had a seemingly legitimate goal chalked off. Kenny found Blackburn
with a clever ball down the left flank and Blackburn immediately thundered a
ball ala Ryan Giggs into the 6-yard area. Chun Haw dashed in and crashed the
ball high into the net but the referee decided that Blackburn was already
offside. Bad call!
In the 2nd half, ARFC conceded another goal. 2-4
Sebastian then released Haron with a reverse pass. With just their
keeper to beat, Haron chipped the ball wide of the goal.
ARFC then had another goal disallowed. From Sebastian’s corner, Toh
leaped like a salmon and powered the ball home with his forehead. However, the
referee deemed that Toh had pushed their defender in the aerial dual. Unlucky!
The referee then made yet another mistake when Soon made a brilliant run
from deep and was free. However, the referee blew for offside. To his credit,
when probed by Sebastian discreetly, he admitted that he had made the wrong
call.
ARFC then pulled a goal back. From the left, Alvin hit a delicious ball
in between their keeper and sweeper. With the ball bouncing, Haron came in and
nodded the ball away from their keeper. With just an empty net, Haron could not
miss and scored his 192nd ARFC goal and 2nd successive
goal at the same venue. 3-4
ARFC pushed for the late equalizer and was indebted to Derrick when he
produced a one-on-one save.
ARFC could not grab an equalizer and lost 3-4
At press time, the voting results are still not in.

Tze Ern starred in dominant ARFC 4-2 victory
Playing at the Tampines SAFRA pitch for the
successive week, ARFC put in a dominant performance to win 4-2 against a
rather-strong team.
The victory was witnessed by Lingzhi (Ron’s
wife), Melissa (Hee’s girlfriend), Anna and Tiara (Elvis’ 2 precious).
Special credit to Derrick for turning up to
play keeper despite not fully recovered from his knee injury. 77 ice-creams for
him!!

ARFC immediately got down to business and hardly put a foot wrong in the
opening minutes. In the 7th
min, Sebastian released Alvin with a slide rule pass and with only their keeper
to beat, Alvin only managed to come up with a feeble shot.
After some near misses, ARFC took the lead in the 27th min.
Ron played the ball to Khim who spotted Sebastian running in from deep. Khim’s played
a low ball with his outside right foot, Sebastian took a touch, penetrated their
central defence by piercing through and was about to pull the trigger when he
was crudely brought down in the box. Sebastian dusted himself off the ground to
put the penalty past their diving keeper for his 85th ARFC goal. 1-0
After scoring, Sebastian left the field as he suffered abrasions on his
face and knee from the foul.
Soon was next when he was released by Alvin into the box and although it
was clear that he was being given a slight push, Soon still stayed on his feet
but the momentum was lost. Thus, he could only drilled a weak shot.
The opponents then made ARFC paid for its profligacy when their speedy
forward glided into the box to beat Derrick. 1-1 Incredibly, this was only
their first real chance in the half.
In the 2nd half, ARFC continued to dominate. Within 7 mins,
ARFC regained the lead. From about
37.7 metres out, Alvin looked up and looked determined to mimic Ron’s goal last
week. He hit a rising shot that kept on rising and rising till it nestled
nicely into the top left hand corner.
2-1 and this was Alvin’s 205th ARFC goal.
Alvin’s goal was almost similar to Ron’s last week goal at the same
venue, except the ball landed into the opposite spot.
ARFC extended its lead after some good passing moves. Blackburn played
the ball down to Tze Ern who produced a superb sizzling cross that eluded every
opponents. Haron showed that the fasting did not affect him at all when he came
in from the blind side to fiercely side-foot the ball home for his 191st
ARFC goal. 3-1
ARFC then conceded another goal. 3-2.
Haron nearly scored his 2nd goal in the match when
Blackburn’s bullet-like corner found Haron dashing in. However, the ball was a
wee bit too high for Haron and he headed the ball over.
Khim then released Alvin with a Xabi Alonso-like ground ball and Alvin
turned and sped away. With their keeper to beat, Alvin again missed.
Hee was next to be the culprit when he was also put clean through.
However, he hurried his shot when he actually had time and the chance was gone.
Alvin then made amends for his 2 horrendous misses with the last kick of
the match. Alvin robbed their sweeper and placed the ball home for his 206th
ARFC goal. 4-2
The referee immediately blew for the final whistle.
In our voting system, Tze Ern narrowly edged out Alvin for the Man-of-the-Match award.
They will be given $10 and $5 respectively.
This is the voting result derived from all 15 warriors present:

- Soon – 18 pts;
- Toh – 12 pts;
- Khim – 9 pts;
- Sebastian – 6 pts;
- Derrick – 1 pt;

Tjioe delivered perfect present for his Megan in 6-3 win
Playing for the first time in 2013 at the
refurbished artificial pitch at Tampines SAFRA, ARFC fashioned a vintage
performance to brush aside a OPOD team 6-3.
The high-energy victory was witnessed by
Melissa and Joy, Hee and Kenny’s beau respectively.
ARFC also welcomed Tjioe back after the
birth of his daughter, Megan. Inspired by her, Tijoe then went on to produce a
performance not seen since his earlier ITE AMK days.
ARFC started with this line-up:

ARFC took the lead in the 7th min. Fresh from his
Man-of-the-Match performance last week, Darren again launched a scud
missile-like throw-in from the left.
Under pressure from Toh, their defender took a slight headed touch to wrong-foot
his own keeper. 1-0 and this was the 31st own goal conceded by
ARFC’s opponents down these years.
However, ARFC then conceded 3 goals in quick succession to trail 1-3!
Sebastian then signaled a change and in came Tjioe, Blackburn and Jinzhong
for Hee, Kenny and Wayne respectively. Tjioe moved to partner Sebastian with
Soon moving to the left, Blackburn paired with Alvin and Jinzhong took the
right-back with Guxiong pushing to right mid.
Things took a turn immediately after the substitutions. Guoxiong
launched a violent tackle on their impressive centre midfielder and before
things turned nasty, both players were sensibly substituted.
ARFC regained control henceforth.
From Sebastian’s corner from the right, Tjioe rose above their keeper at
almost the goal-line to glance the ball home for his 59th ARFC goal.
2-3 and this was also Tjioe’s first ARFC goal in 2013.
After scoring, Tjioe immediately screamed “MEGAN, this is for you from
daddy!!!!”
ARFC equalized after yet another throw-in from Darren. His throw-in
missed everyone but Tjioe who headed against the bar. From the rebound, Alvin
reacted quickest to head the ball in for his 204th ARFC goal. 3-3
In the 2nd half, ARFC was in total control despite being the
much-older team.
ARFC took the lead 7 mins after the re-start. Wayne fizzed an excellent
low ball down the left flank for Hee to chase. Hee brought the ball inwards ala
Ryan Giggs and laid to Kenny. Under the watchful eyes of Joy, Kenny steadied
himself, looked up and curled a delicious lob over their keeper ala Matthew Le
Tissier for his 19th ARFC goal. What a world-class goal.
With this goal, Kenny moved on level with ex-ARFC warrior Jesmond at 19
goals.
Ron then bettered Kenny’s goal in the 77th min. From
Jackson’s throw-in from the right, Ron had the luxury of time to take aim. From
37.77 metres, Ron unleashed a rising violent shot ala Steven Gerrard that flew
right into the right-hand corner that gave their diving keeper no chance at
all. 5-3 and this was Ron’s 2nd goal in successive matches.
7 mins from the end, both Alvin and Hee combined to put the icing on the
cake. Their very big and strong sweeper was harassed by Alvin and he tried to
be clever by turning away from Alvin. Unknown to him, Hee crept up from the
side using his Usain Bolt speed and stole the ball away from him who then had
no choice but to bring Hee down in the box. Blackburn stepped up to sedn their
keeper the wrong way for his 127th ARFC goal. 6-3
In our voting system, Ron was deservingly voted to be the
Man-of-the-Match though Tjioe came extremely close. They will be given $10 and $5
respectively.

ARFC in complete control in 3-0 victory
Playing on Sebastian’s 6th
wedding anniversary (07 Jul), ARFC delivered a perfect present to him by easily
brushing aside a Malay team 3-0.
Witnessing the comprehensive victory is
Melissa, Hee’s muse.
ARFC started with this line-up:
Keeper - Impeccable How Meng
Right-back - Resolute Jasper
Sweeper - Astute-reading sweeper Elvis

ARFC could not settled down on the hard pitch within the first 7 mins
and the opponents were quick to launch several attacks down their left.
However, Jasper, ably supported by Toh, Elvis, Soon and Sebastian, stood tall
to their speedy left winger.
ARFC took the lead in the 17th min. Of from yet another scud
missile throw-in from Darren, Alvin trapped the ball expertly before turning to
fire home a diagonal low shot ala Fernando Torres (Liverpool version). 1-0 and
this was his 202nd ARFC goal.
ARFC then totally dominated the half and created many chances but all
were spurned.
In the 2nd half, ARFC doubled its lead with almost a carbon
copy goal from the first. Darren’s torpedo-like throw in caused chaotic scenes
in the 6-yard box and after their keeper fumbled with his catch, Alvin simply
turned the ball into the net for his 203rd AFC goal. 2-0
Toh then came close with so many headers from corners.
ARFC continued to squander away chances created.
In the 77th min, Ron put the icing on the cake. Wayne wheeled
away down the left flank and swung in a perfect cross to the far post. Ron burst in from deep and produced a BPL-like goal when he slided in and volleyed
the ball into the net ala
Didier Drogba. 3-0 and this was Ron’s 8th ARFC goal, putting
him level with Wayne.
In all honesty, ARFC could have won by a much bigger margin as it as
totally a one-sided match. Indeed, How Meng only touched the ball less than 7
times in the entire match.
After the match, in a new voting system implemented, Darren was awarded
the Man-of-the-Match while Soon came in second. They will be given $10 and $5
respectively.
This is the voting result derived from all 15 warriors present:

Inspiring team performance paved the way to 5-2 victory
Playing its first night match in 2013, ARFC
put in a high-octane performance to suffocate its opponent, Bedok Police FC,
5-2.
The match also witnessed the appearance of
ARFC’s first-ever right-back Boon, who went MIA for 7 years.
Special credit to both Darren and Chun How
for volunteering to be keeper for each half.

ARFC quickly gained control upon kick-off. Particularly, Weilit was very
impressive with his mazy dribbles down the left flank.
In the 17th min, ARFC took the lead after Chun Haw cleverly
won a free-kick out on the left. Before taking the free-kick, Sebastian already
exchanged eye-signals with Haron. Playing his 2nd match in
successive days, Sebastian showed no signs of fatigue when he lasered in a high
ball all the way to the far post for Haron to come in from deep to powered-head
the ball with a flying header ala Juergen Klinsmann for his 190th
ARFC goal. 1-0
Hee then took over from Sebastian, with Chun Haw moving back to centre
mid.
Chun Haw then showed his class when he received the ball at the left,
spotted Derrick calling for the ball from right, and immediately threaded a
diagonal low ball. Derrick’s first touch was heavy and nearly lost the ball to
their covering defender and keeper but somehow, Derrick gave a last-min burst and
prodded the ball home for his 66th ARFC goal. 2-0.
Ryan then took over from Derrick, Elvis from Soon, Victor from Toh, Boon
from Jasper.
ARFC then conceded a goal. 2-1
Alvin’s boots finally arrived and he took over from Blackburn.
Ryan then created a golden opportunity when his right wing cross eluded
every opponent and landed right at the feet of Alvin, who was totally,
absolutely and completely unmarked in the 6-yard area! Faced with their keeper
who was shocked till rooted on the ground, Alvin inexplicably fired wide!!
Derrick then replaced Weilit who signalled for change. Alas, tragedy soon
struck when Derrick was kicked from behind and injured his right knee.
ARFC quickly regained its 2-goal margin after a series of wall passes.
Guoxiong passed to Blackburn and continued his run, Blackburn then passed to
Ryan who, after spotted Guoxiong’s run, quickly passed the ball in. Without
breaking his stride, Guoxiong thumped home his 16th ARFC goal. 3-1
and this was also Guoxiong’s first goal for ARFC in 2013.
Blackburn then spurned a golden chance when he beat their keeper. But faced
with an gaping goal, Blackburn chose to square the ball to Ryan who was also
free in the 6-yard area. Due to a combination of a soft pass and Ryan’s
shockness, the ball was cleared away by their covering defender.
The opponents then scored from a quick break-away. 3-2
Weilit then finally justified his ARFC nick-name when he produced a mazy
dribble to weave past 4 defenders to rifle in his 3rd ARFC goal. World-class
goal ala Neymar. 4-2 and this was also
Weilit’s first ARFC goal in 2013.
Toh then suffered a nasty cut at his right eye-brow area after a clash
of heads.
By now, the opponents were totally deflated and ARFC continued to harass
and close down space non-stop. From one such move, Blackburn galloped down the
left flank and swung in a vicious cross. Before the ball reach Hee, Guoxiong
was heard shouting ‘MELISSA’ and inspired by the name, Hee came from blind side
to sweep home a thunderous volley alas Robin van Persie for his 90th
ARFC goal. 5-2 and MELISSA has indeed done wonders to Hee.
Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Weilit and Soon. However, what is most heartening is the great
teamwork and play by all warriors tonight.
Jasper also deserved special mention for his 6-7 overlapping runs from
right-back, while Boon lasted more than 7 mins!
