ARFC's worst opponents since formation in Jun 1991

After a fascinating 13-2 win last week, ARFC came crashing down to earth after suffering a 2-6 defeat at Galaticos FC.

Special credit must be given to Haron who turned up despite fasting and volunteered to be keeper. Kudos to Khim too who also made a last-min appearance despite touching down from China in the wee hours earlier.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper: ARFC Scoring Legend Haron
Right-back: Marauding Guoxiong
Sweeper: Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Stopper: Towering Toh
Left-back: Wonder Wayne
Right-mid: Dynamic Soon
Centre-mid: Combative Ron
Centre-mid: Influential Sebastian
Left-mid: Sublime Khim
Striker: Unpredictable Blackburn (captain)
Striker: Powerful Alvin

Subs:

Talisman Derrick (late)
Hard-man Tjioe

Absent:

Steely Tze Ern
Unbeatable Darren
Speedy Hee
Precocious En Dian
Nippy Kenny
Long-throw specialist Norman
Dependable Jinzhong
Talented Chun Haw

The younger opponents were clearly superior to ARFC and Haron and defence managed to keep them at bay for the opening 20 mins. However, ARFC soon found itself 4 goals down before finally waking up from its slumber.

First, Tjioe’s wonderful ball from centre mid down to the left flank was latched on by Alvin who again showed his trade-mark powerful run by easily out-pacing and out-muscling their right back before unleashing a stinging grounder with his outside right foot for his 151st ARFC goal. 1-4.

Within mins ARFC pulled another goal back courtesy of Khim’s superb cross-field ball down the right flank. The ball flew over their left-back and there was Derrick who came charging in from the right. Reaching the ball ahead of their keeper, Derrick nonchalantly lifted the ball over him for his 37th ARFC goal. 2-4 and Derrick’s goal took him past Soon’s 36 goals to stay at ARFC’s 11th all-time leading scorers.

However, Derrick is still 10 goals short of Khim’s 47 goals which put him at 10th position.

ARFC conceded another goal just before half-time to trail 2-5.

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Ron and Khim.
