In a match played under rather cool weather (match kick-off time is at 1330 hrs!!) and muddy condition at Stadia 367, ARFC easily brushed aside the newly-formed team St. James Power House.
ARFC was bolstered by the last-minute appearance of Kiat Gulam, powerful Alvin and most significant of all, sublime Khim. ARFC scoring legend Haron also enlisted the assistance of his brother (real brother I mean) and his friend to play for us. However, ARFC started with its original warriors first.
Dependable Jinzhong started in goal, with astute-reading Elvis, determined Huiming, Kiat Gulam and hardworking Tong as the defence. In the midfield, sublime Khim and entrepreneur Guoxiong were at the flanks, with Sebastiano partnering unpredictable Blackburn, who earned a surprise call-up in the first team. Up front, ARFC scoring legend Haron and Speedy Hee led the line and the former was also the Captain of the Day. Hard-man Tjioe, powerful Alvin and our 2 guest players were the subs.
ARF started the match gingerly due to the almost 1-month lay-off. As usual, ARFC quickly settled down and displayed the brand of football that all ESPN viewers, including Charlie Webster, are used to see week-in-week-out. Speedy Hee spurned 2 golden opportunities when he shot meekly at the keeper when presented with open goal.
In the 17th min, sublime Khim picked up a stray clearance and played a quick one-two with unpredictable Blackburn. Eluding 2 more defenders in the congested penalty box, Khim expertly slotted the ball past their keeper for the opening goal and opened up the flood-gate. This was sublime Khim’s 22nd ARFC goal.
ARFC went 2-0 up 7 minutes later. Again, a stray clearance fell to Speedy Hee. Spotting ARFC scoring legend Haron making a run through the defence, Speedy Hee chipped in a delicious ball ala Glenn Hoddle, and the latter calmly lobbed over the keeper for his 104th goal for ARFC. Wonderful!!
Powerful Alvin replaced the tiring Speedy Hee. Within minutes of coming on, he made his presence felt when he thumped in his 24th goal for ARFC after a superb long ball over the top for him by unpredictable Blackburn.
7 minutes before the half-time whistle, powerful Alvin got his second goal of the match when he finished off another wonderful ARFC move. 4-0!!!
When second half resumed, ARFC seemed to be complacent and was not the same team as the first half. ARFC then conceded 2 sloppy goals after 2 horrendous mistakes by the dependable Jinzhong, thereby giving opponent a glimpse of hope.
In the 57th min, ARFC won a free-kick on the left flank. Opting to take a quick free-kick, Sebastiano floated in the ball which was spilled by their keeper to ARFC scoring legend who gleefully put the ball into the empty net. This was his 105th ARFCgoal!!!
In the 67th min, powerful Alvin grabbed his hat-trick when hard-man Tjioe whipped in a fabulous ball from the right flank and powerful Alvin scored with a stooping header for his 26th ARFC goal. Powerful Alvin also became the only player in ARFC history to score hat-tricks in 3 successive matches!!!!!
ARFC was not done. In the 87th min, ARFC won a corner which was quickly taken by unpredictable Blackburn to hardworking Tong. Looking up, hardworking Tong delivered a measured ball and Speedy Hee leaped the highest and scored with a well-placed header ala Peter Crouch. Fantastic!!! This was his 44th goal for ARFC.
Speaking to the horde of reporters, Man-of-the-Match hardworking Tong felt that his performance could have been better if not for his new job as a make-up artist which ook up lots of his time. He also took the opportunity to advertise his services to the reporters.
Separately, Kiat Gulam, hard-man Tjioe and powerful Alvin were heard trying to cajole the opponent for free entry and free drinks at St. James Power House later tonight.…….
