ARFC laboured to a 5-3 victory against Serangoon Uncle FC

In a match played under the capacity crowd of 77,777 at ITE Stadia, ARFC laboured to a 5-3 victory over the winless Serangoon Uncle FC.

Due to lack of GK, quick-silver Derrick volunteered to be in goal. In defence, the 4 stalwarts remained, astute-reading Elvis, Towering Toh, Bernard and Huiming. In midfield, Sebastiano and Kiat Gulam guard the centre to be flanked by sublime Khim and WO Neo. Up front, powerful Alvin partnered Speedy Hee who returned after missing last week's macth due to his negotiations with all the IMF protesters. ARFC scoring legend Haron, still-injured and unpredictible Blackburn and later, Jinzhong, were the subs.

The match was only 7 mins old when Sebastiano hit a measured diagonal long ball into the path of the onrushing sublime Khim who side-footed the ball home for a 1-0 lead.

7 mins later, off a through ball from sublime Khim to powerful Alvin, the latter was clumsily tripped by their defender and up stepped astute-reading Elvis to send the GK the wrong way with his penalty. This would be only Elvis' 3rd goal for ARFC. 2-0.

ARFC then squandered chances after chances and powerful Alvin was the chief culprit. WO Neo also missed an open goal (ala Bellamy's effort against Tottenham on Saturday).

Serangoon Uncle FC soon made ARFC paid for its watsefulness. In the 27th min, a horrendous mistake by Bernard resulted in them pulling a goal back.

Worse was to come 7 mins later. The opponent flighted the ball in from the free-kick and the enitre ARFC defence stood rooted. As a result, their player "stomached" the ball in for the equaliser. Half-time 2-2.

ARFC was booed off by their faithful fans at half-time which was a very rare ocurrence though it was well-deserved.

ARFC responded by bringing on ARFC scoring legend and quick-silver Derrick at right-mid. Just minutes later, both subs contributed to the 3rd goal. Quick-silver passed the ball to Haron who took a touch before letting fly a shot which screamed goal all the way. True enough, the ball flew right across the keeper into the top left-hand corner which prompted a "Mexican waves" around the stadia.

7 minutes, Serangoon Uncle FC equalised when their left-back took a shot that beat Jinzhong all the way. 3-3.

The experienced ARFC warriors then patiently carved out chances. In the 67th min, Sebastiano chipped the ball to sublime Khim who in turn touched on for Haron to side-foot home. 4-3. Wonderful technique!!!

7 mins later, WO Neo harassed the defender so much that the latter lost the ball to powerful Alvin who made up for his earlier misses by bringing the ball in and beating the keeper easily. 5-3.

In the post-match interview with Skysports, powerful Alvin apologised for his misses and vowed to do better in the next match.

4 ARFC warriors in secret training sponsored by SAF

An anonymous source has spotted a few Apex Rangers players training secretly in the lush compounds of the state of the art Khatib camp. BBC Panaroma has revealed that the players in question are the fearsome sweeper Elvis, the entrepreneur Guoxiong, the sublime Khim and the not so speedy Boon.BBC can also reveal that they are actually being recalled for RT sessions (unlike the polis) and this will explain why ARFC have suffered 2 defeats in a row. It is being urged that the 'fit' players take a cue from these shameful players and buck up on their fitness. On a brighter note, they have promised to return with a vengence in the next game as they were being chased down Sembawang road by the BBC crew. We await results of their IPPT test.

ARFC turns in 6-star performance

Dear ARFC warriors:

ARFC bounced back from its 2 successive losses with a comprehensive trouncing of Marauders by the scoreline of 6-1 in front of the ever-faithful 77,777 ARFC fans at ITE Stadia.

In view of the poor attendance, Sebastiano called up quick-silver Derrick Teh and Kelvin (Rendezvous FC’s keeper) to boost up its strength. ARFC also received a welcome boost with the return of astute-reading Elvis who missed last week’s game with last-minute work commitments. Also, Toh was released from his ICT after one of ARFC’s Board of Directors wrote an appeal letter to Teo Chee Hean, the Defence Minister, for his release.

However, as Kelvin was late for the game, hard-working Tong volunteered as GK. Elvis and Towering Toh guarded the centre, with determined Huiming and the ever-improving Bernard flanking it. In the middle, Kiat Gulam and Sebastiano have the sublime Khim and quick0silver Derrick at their sides. Up front, ARFC scoring legend partnered the powerful Alvin. WO Neo and the still-injured and unpredictable Blackburn were the subs. Kelvin later arrived for the game. Again, would like to place on record ARFC’s appreciation for Blackburn’s attendance despite his injury.

Roared on by the faithful fans, ARFC started the match with fire in their stomaches as Huiming had promised the fans of an improved showing after 2 successive losses. In the 7th min, Sebastiano released a quick ball down the left to Alvin who beat their right-back before squaring the ball across for Kiat Gulam to tap in the first goal. The opponents protested that the ball had earlier crossed the line but their protests were waved away by the referee. 1-0.

In the 17th min, ARFC doubled its lead after yet another long ball to the right to quick-silver Derrick. Beating a player, Derrick sent the ball across the penalty area and under pressure from our strikers, their defender clumsily put the ball into its own net. 2-0. By now, the fans smelled a victory and began chanting “Win, Win, win” for 7 minutes.

ARFC’s 3rd goal came soon after. The sublime-Khim engineered a superb ball down the left flank to the over-lapping Bernard who swept a beautiful ball to Haron. Haron’s initial shot was parried by their keeper but he kept his composure to easily lob the ball for ARFC’s 3rd goal.

Minutes into the second half, ARFC won a free-kick on the left. Up stepped the unpredictable Blackburn to deliver a ball aimed at Towering Toh. Their keeper misjudged the ball and Toh scored this time not with his head but with his thigh. 4-0!!! The fans started chanting “Blackburn!Blackburn!Blackburn!” and an ITE wave was started and lasted for about 7 minutes.

The opponents pulled a goal back after Kelvin hesitated in a through ball. 4-1!!

ARFC, however, continued its good play. In the 57th min, the hard-working Tong won a challenge in the middle of the park and dinged a through ball to powerful Alvin. Alvin did not disappoint the fans and he scored ARFC’s fifth goal with a cool finish.

The icing on the cake came in the 67th min. Sebastiano beat 2 players on the right flank and sent in a high ball to the left to Kiat Gulam. Kiat Gulam paid the ball back to Derrick who coolly side-footed the ball home for ARFC’s 6th goal.

Minutes before the end, WO Neo nearly scored the goal of the game with his 37-metres thunderbolt that cannoned off the cross-bar.

When the referee blew the final whistle, the fanatical fans rushed into the pitch and began hugging every players. Clearly, they were extremely satisfied with ARFC’s performance, especially that of the defence (which had an impeccable game) and Derrick, who was clearly the Man-of-the-Match.

ARFC’s victory, however, came with a price as ARFC Scoring Legend, Haron, limped off with a strained hamstring. The extent of his injury would be made known after the medical examination by Dr Ng Eng Hen.

Headliner of the Week

Dear ARFC warriors:

Pl pick your choice.

Headliner 1: “ARFC slumps to second successive defeat”

Headliner 2: “ARFC scoring legend, Haron, notches up his 93rd goal for ARFC”

Headliner 3: “Sebastiano and Kiat Gulam too vocal for ARFC warriors’ liking”

ARFC suffers second defeat in Classiq League 06

Dear ARFC warriors:

ARFC slumped to its successive defeat in the Classiq League 2006 after going down to a narrow 2-1 loss against Yaakeen in front of the faithful 77,777 fans at ITE Stadia.

Prior to the match, ARFC received a blow when Elvis, the astute-reading Sweeper, pulled out due to last-minute work commitment. In step Kiat Gulam to take over his place, with Towering Toh, Bernard and Huiming covering him. In the midfield, Sebastiano and hard-working Tong guard the centre, with the sublime Khim and powerful Alvin taking up the flanks. Up front, Speedy Hee partnered ARFC scoring legend Haron. ARFC was also delighted to see unpredictable Blackburn turning up even though he was badly injured during last week’s game. In goal, Chow (guest player) helped ARFC out.

ARFC was immediately put under tremendous pressure by the very determined Yaakeen. They took shots after shots but ARFC held firm. In the 27th min, off a quickly-taken free-kick by Sebastino that released Khim in the area, Khim took a shot that unfortunately ricocheted off the post and bounced away to safety. Unlucky ARFC!!

In all fairness, ARFC was also lucky not to trail by the first half after some wayward finishing by Yaakeen.

In the 2nd half, Blackburn replaced Speedy Hee. It was clear by now that Blackburn was not fully fit. However, in the 57th min, sublime Khim released Blackburn down the left flank and despite being unable to sprint, Blackburn still delivered an inch-perfect cross to ARFC scoring legend Haron and the latter did not disappoint by expertly headed the ball past their keeper. 1-0!! Chants of “Blackburn, Blackburn!!” echoed around the stadia.

The lead, however, lasted only a few minutes. Off an innocuous ball pump into ARFC’s defence, Chow fumbled the ball and the opponent quickly took the ball, side-stepped a defender and shot the ball towards goal. Though the shot was no power, Kiat Gulam came within 7 mm of kicking the ball out. 1-1!!

In the 77th min, things got worse for ARFC. Their left-winger received a ball and shot past Chow for a 2-1 lead.

ARFC did not give up the fight. Speedy Hee, who replaced Blackburn who was unable to carry on anymore, raced on to a through ball from Khim but his shot was parried by their keeper for a corner.

Minutes later, some clever inter-play between Khim and Haron resulted in Khim taking the ball right up into the penalty box. Before he could a shot, their defender managed to slide the ball out of play and in the process brought Khim down. The referee, who was having a poor game, waved away the vehemous protest from the ARFC warriors.

When the final whistle went, ARFC warriors were disappointed not to at least snatch a point in this game. The fans appreciated ARFC’s efforts and applauded the team off the field.

Would also like to place on record for Blackburn’s attendance for today’s game, even though he was unable to run much. Excellent attitude!!!

ARFC suffered first defeat in Classiq League 06

In a match played under extreme hot weather and in front of the usual 77, 777 fanatical ARFC fans, ARFC suffered its first defeat in the Classiq League after going down to a 6-3 defeat by Aces United.

ARFC received a good and bad news prior to the match. Veteran utility full-back David Mak (father of Marco Mak), informed through his lawyer that he would be out of 7 weeks as his lovely wife is going to give birth soon. While all the ARFC warriors are all very happy for him, this meant that ARFC would be deprived of an experienced player.

ARFC started with Jinzhong in goal, Elvis and Towering Toh at the heart of defence and Huiming and Bernard flanking it. In the midfield, Kiat Gulam took up right-midfield, Sebastiano and Tong patrolled the centre while the sublime Khim taking up the left. Up front, ARFC scoring legend Haron and powerful Alvin led the front-line. WO Neo, Speedy Hee and unpredictable Blackburn filled up the subs bench.

As predicted, ARFC was immediately put under heavy pressure by a very strong Aces Utd. In the 17th min, Aces Utd took the lead. 0-1.

ARFC equalized 7 mins later. Haron and Alvin exchanged passes that put Haron through. Naturally, Haron did not disappoint the 77, 777 fans and his cool finish leveled the score. 1-1. Chants of ‘Haron, Haron’ were heard round the stadium for about 7 mins.

However, another error by ARFC and a rather dubious off-side call resulted in them taking the lead again within minutes. Half-time 1-2.

A string of substitutions took place in the 2nd half. However, ARFC suffered another blow when Blackburn limped off after only about 3 mins on the field.

ARFC nevertheless took it in its stride and 7 mins after the re-start, a quick throw-in by Alvin resulted in Kiat Gulam flicking the ball to Haron who again showed such deadly finishing by scoring another equalizer. 2-2.

Once again, Aces Utd took the lead within mins. Off a corner, their chief striker lost Tong’s marking and headed the ball home. 2-3. They then went on to score another quick goal off a counter-attack for 2-4.

7 mins later, the sublime Khim beat 3 defenders down the left flank and delivered an inch-perfect cross for Alvin to dive home ARFC’s third goal. This was Alvin’s 9th goal for ARFC.

By now, ARFC warriors are fast-tiring and Aces Utd then went on to score another 2 goals for a 6-3 victory.

The fans, however, gave a rousing applause to all the ARFC warriors who, although out-classed by Aces Utd, never gave up the fight and continued battling till the end of the match.

In the post-match interview, Huiming, one of the ARFC Board of Directors, apologized for not giving the fanatical fans to celebrate. Huiming, however, promised a better showing in its next match against Yaakeen on 10 Sep 06 @ 3 pm @ ITE Stadia.

All fans are welcome.
