Jasper notched debut ARFC goal in 10-0 rout

In a 5 pm friendly match against CBCV, ARFC shrugged aside last week’s disappointing defeat by putting 10 goals without reply past the hapless opponents which probably only managed less than 5 shots in the match.

ARFC was watched by Melissa and YY, beau of Hee and Jasper respectively, as well as Roberto, boyfriend of no girl as yet.

Credit to Alvin and Soon for coming despite their long-distance run in the morning. Huge credit to Derrick too (you all know the reason – cannot be disclosed here).

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper - Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back - Unpredictable Blackburn
Sweeper - Combative Ron
Stopper - Towering Toh (captain)
Left-back - Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid - Speedy Hee
Centre-mid - Marauding Guoxiong

ARFC showed its intent from the word go and took the lead in the 7th min. Not for the first time, Derrick and Alvin showed immerse telepathic understanding developed from their kt days when Derrick dinked in a quick free-kick. Alvin needed no second invitation and duly dispatched the ball home for his 223rd ARFC goal. 1-0

Guoxiong then underlined his potential as a centre midfielder when he let fly a 47.77 metre rocket ala Ruud Gullit that gave their keeper no chance at all. 2-0 and this was Guoxiong’s 19th ARFC goal.

Curiously enough, Guoxiong was seen pointing his index finger towards the gate area after scoring as if to give credit to someone. All ARFC warriors including the reserves then turned to look towards the direction and spotted one girl who looked totally like our ex-ARFC warrior, Tong. However, the unidentified girl then quickly ran away from her spot. Strange-love really….

Blackburn then mimicked Guoxiong’s goal when he also unleashed a stiff grounder from 47.777 metres for his 134th ARFC goal. 3-0

In the 2nd half, club captain Sebastian made his first ARFC appearance in a month after his self-imposed break.

Within 77 seconds from the re-start, ARFC scored its 4th goal after Kenny hit a corner-kick right at the most dangerous area just at the tip of the 6-yard box. Soon dashed in and met the ball with a thumping header for his 55th ARFC goal. 4-0

77 seconds later, Kenny repeated the corner routine in an almost replica move. This time round, Jinzhong, who had such an impressive outing, outjumped everybody and headed the ball goalwards. The ball looked to be heading out for a goal-kick until Jasper, who also improved, stuck his left-foot out to divert the goal into the net ala William Gallas’ trade-mark move. 5-0 and this was Jasper’s debut goal.

After scoring, Jasper sprinted towards YY and hoisted her up in the air for a full 77 seconds and shouting “I Love YY” repeatedly at the same time.

Hee then marked his return to ARFC (also one-month break) by glancing the ball home from Blackburn’s left-wing cross. 6-0 and this was Hee’s 94th ARFC goal.

After scoring, Hee also speeded towards Melissa who, however, was busy watching the movie “Frozen” with her ipad and singing “Let It Go” at the same time.

Weilit then demonstrated why he is fast becoming ARFC’s most improved player when he exchanged a gem of a wall-pass with Haron before running in from deep to whip the ball past their exposed keeper. 7-0 and this was Weilit’s 6th ARFC goal.

Guoxiong then reminded everybody of his right-wing prowess when he chalked up 3 assists for ARFC’s last 3 goals.

First, he lofted in a ball right into the 6-yard area which saw their keeper completely missing the ball. Alvin was the beneficiary when he simply pushed the ball over the goal-line using just 0.77 ounce of his energy for his 224th ARFC goal. 8-0

Haron then grabbed a brace. First, Guoxiong’s right-wing cross was met with a world-class super-delicious scissor-kick from Haron that no keeper in this world could possibly save. 9-0 and this was Haron’s 201st ARFC goal.

Then, Sebastian broke clear from his own half, evaded a few tackles and galloped forward. After exchanging one-two with Kenny, Sebastian spread the ball out wide to Guoxiong even though he could have just headed goalwards. Guoxiong immediately fizzed the ball back to the penalty area and Haron arrived from deep to sweep the ball goalwards. The ball hit the underside of the cross-bar and bounced over the line. 10-0 and this was Haron’s 202nd ARFC goal.

There was still time for Chun Haw to grab a hat-trick if not for his 3 amazing misses. First, he shot into Row X. Seconds later, he skied the ball into Row Y and seconds later, he ballooned the ball to Row Z. Wasted!

These are the voting results:

Jinzhong – 11
Guoxiong – 11
Weilit – 9
Alvin – 5
Haron – 4
Darren – 3
Blackburn – 2
Derrick – 2
Toh – 2
Jasper – 2
Kenny – 1
Hee – 1
Ron – 1

No thanks to a disastrous 5-min lapse of concentration which saw 3 goals being shipped, ARFC fell to its first defeat in 2014 after losing 2-4 to Chester City.

ARFC fired the first salvo in the 3rd min when Alvin found his way down the left flank via his usual trade-make run. He cut the ball back and fizzed in a low ball. Soon showed great anticipation when he dashed in from deep to dispatch the ball nicely into the net. 1-0 and this was Soon’s 54th ARFC goal.

The opponents then equalized. 1-1

5 mins into the second half, Derrick continued to justify his ‘Most Improved Player of 2013’ when he sliced the ball through for Kenny who broke their off-side trap easily. Unfortunately, Kenny’s fierce left-foot shot cannoned off their left post and rebounded to the opponents. With a swift counter-attack, the opponents scored! 1-2

3 mins later, the opponents scored again. 1-3

2 mins later, the opponents put the result to bed by scoring their 4th goal. 1-4

No one in the packed stadium could believe what was unfolding before their eyes. All ARFC warriors were also stunned by this sudden melt-down.

To ARFC’s credit, all warriors quickly regrouped and managed to pull a goal back in the 70th min.  Derrick exchanged wall-passes with Kenny and duly scored his 75th ARFC goal. 2-4

Man-of-the-Match is given to Weilit who displayed marked improvement in running and taking on opponents.

Toh excelled in 3-1 win

Playing a 9 am match in 7887 years, ARFC shrugged off its dual problems of “morning sickness” and “no subs” by producing a clinical display to brush aside a neighbourhood social soccer team from Al-Khair Mosque comprising of students, working adults and veteran pak-ciks.

The match was witnessed by ARFC’s most ardent supporter and once-GK for ARFC, Brendan Casanova Roberto, of Singapore--Kosovo-Chilean-Zimbabwe-Mexico-Papua New Guinea (6 different continents)mixed parentage.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper - Ismail (guest keeper – Haron’s BIL)
Right-back - Indra (guest player)
Sweeper - Unpredictable Blackburn
Stopper - Towering Toh
Left-back - Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid - Skillful Weilit

ARFC started with just 11 warriors as How Meng, Jasper and Chun Haw, who all promised to come, were still busy in their slumberland.  In stark contrast, the opponents had at least 30 of them who had arrived at 8 am to do their warm-ups together gather under the scorching sun.  On the side-lines, another 77 or so mah-ciks were busied playing the drums and all musical instruments imaginable.

Despite the huge disparity, ARFC did not let it affect their game as they started it with their usual slick passing.

In the 17th min, from a throw in by Darren near to the corner line, Derrick headed the ball backwards towards the centre of goal. Haron tried to attempt an overhead kick but failed to connect the ball. However, he managed to shield the ball from the opponent and allowed the on-rushing Guoxiong, who once again showed what ARFC has been missing during his referee hiatus, to slam the ball towards goal. Their keeper got his hands to the shot but as it was too powerful, their keeper could only parried the ball into the net. 1-0 and this was Guoxiong’s 18th goal.

Guoxiong’s goal also ended a goal-drought since his last goal was on 28 Jul 2013 at Tampines SAFRA in the 3-4 defeat by the Zouk Team.

ARFC continued to press on the opponent's half and was rewarded in the 27th min. From a free-kick taken by Blackburn, he swung the ball towards Haron that was rushing into the box. Haron managed to touch the ball slightly before an on-rushing defender causing the defender to miss his clearance. The ball then dropped nicely in the box for Derrick, gliding in from the blind-side on the right, to whip the ball into the top corner beyond the despairing arms of the keeper.   2-0 and this was Derrick’s 74th ARFC goal.

The opponents could not believe the score-line and started to make changes after changes with their many players available. The many changes however seemed to cause much confusion which ARFC fully took advantage of in the 37th min.

With a free-kick earned just outside the box, Derrick quickly released it towards Wayne who was free in the box, while the opponents were still busy arguing among themselves and getting back to form their wall. Wayne did not waste the chance presented to him and simply and nonchalently guided the ball past the keeper. 3-0 and this was Wayne’s 11th ARFC goal.

While ARFC was happy with their play thus far, the heat had also taken its toll with many of them experiencing “dead-leg” and all. Despite so, ARFC used its experience to control the tempo of the match to preserve energy.

Noticing the tiredness in ARFC’s play, the opponent pressed and poured forward in numbers.  They were eventually rewarded with a goal in the 67th min. 3-1 now.

Ismail, Haron’s impressive keeper and BIL, in no particular order, then came to the fore by producing two world-class saves in the dying minutes.

Superb performance by ARFC’s defence marshalled by Toh and supported by Blackburn, Darren and Indra.  Guoxiong also reigned supremacy as centre midfielder.

Lunar New Year Greetings

On behalf of ARFC, I would like to wish all ARFC warriors:

A cock that is as long as a horse....

Huat ah!!!

ARFC scores first victory in 2014

Playing a morning match since years ago, ARFC did not allow the morning heat to affect its dominating 3-0 victory over Marine Devils FC. The win was also ARFC’s first in 2014 after 3 matches.

ARFC welcomed back Guoxiong who made his return after many months of refereeing. Ex-ARFC warrior Eng Lai, the oldest player to play for ARFC, also responded to ARFC’s SOS call and made his appearance.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper - Impeccable How Meng
Right-back - Marauding Guoxiong
Sweeper - Towering Toh (captain)
Stopper - Dependable Jinzhong
Left-back - Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid - Speedy Hee

ARFC started strongly with Alvin and Kenny particularly menacing.  Guoxiong also showed what ARFC has been missing in right-back position with his marauding runs and tenacity defending.

ARFC took the lead in the 7th min. A long punt upfield was flicked on by Derrick and then Kenny. The loose ball looked to be picked up by their keeper but he hesitated after seeing Alvin charging in, probably intimidated by Alvin’s bulging muscles. Alvin needed no second invitation and he simply prodded the ball home for his 222nd ARFC goal. 1-0

How Meng then preserved ARFC’s lead when he produced a superb save.

Derrick then earned a penalty after he was clumsily brought down. Hee stepped up but could only produced a weak low ball down the centre which was easily saved by their keeper. With the miss, Hee will “Miss A Turn” in penalty-duty.

Suddenly, Alvin remembered his “super kt BJ session” that caused his heart to palpate at 7777 heartbeats per min. As such, he was taken off as precautionary measure.

In the 2nd half, Toh was twice denied by Alvin in the space of seconds.

First, from Sebastian’s corner on the right, Toh looked to be in a better position to meet the ball but Alvin leaped in front of him to send the header wide.

77 seconds later, from a Sebastian’s cross from the right, Toh looked poised to head home until Alvin intervened and repeated the same move by jumping in front of Toh and headed wide.

How Meng again came to ARFC’s rescue when he reacted brilliantly to palm a stinging long-range powerful shot over the bar. World-class.

Eng Lai then turned back the clock when he released Weilit down the right flank with a dinking ball. Weilit powered down the right channel and sensing that their keeper would expect a cross, Weilit let fly a stiff grounder from an almost acute angle to beat their keeper, much to the surprise of all and sundry . 2-0 and this was Weilit’s 5th ARFC goal.

However, ARFC’s joy turned to agony when Eng Lai twisted his knee in the assist.

How Meng then kept the 2-goal margin when he kept out a certain goal by making a flying low save. Simply fantastic!

From a free-kick in the middle, Kenny stood over the ball and curled in a left-foot beauty that bent round the wall but was just 0.77 mm off the stanchion! Super unlucky but what a technique.

Kenny was not to be denied moments later. Alvin and Derrick combined to set Kenny up. Kenny fooled their defender with a fake left-foot shot, and with the ball on his right foot, Kenny simply whacked the ball inside the near post of the goal for his 31st ARFC goal. 3-0

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to How Meng and Jinzhong.

RED Hot Chilli Peppers demolished BLACK Eyed Peas 5-1 in Reunion Match

On 19 Jan 2014 at 7 pm at Tampines SAFRA, ARFC played its 2nd Reunion match where a total of 34 former and current warriors turned out. The match was also attended by so many WAGs and children.

Prior to the match, a draw was conducted between Sebastian and Haron (standing in for Blackburn who was unusually late). The teams are:

The match started with at a frantic pace as both teams were really eager to show who’s the boss.

BLACK Eyed Peas fired the first salvo when Alvin robbed hesitant Toh just outside the box. Alvin sped inwards but just drilled his low shot slightly wide.

RED Hot Chilli Peppers then returned fire when Guigui threatened down the left but could not find the target.

RED Hot Chilli Peppers then took the lead through rather fortuitous manner. Blackburn’s free-kick from the right was hit right into the heart of BLACK Eyed Peas defence. Goalkeeper Derrick charged out but missed the ball. The ball then hit the shin of Guoxiong, who was tracking back, and rolled nicely into the empty net. 1-0 to RED Hot Chilli Peppers.

Despite the own-goal, Guoxiong’s 2 beaus, Tracie and Clara, still showed their undying support by shouting “We Still Love You, Dear!!”

Disaster then hit BLACK Eyed Peas 7 mins later. A long punt down the field seemed harmless and innocuous enough. Ron heard a shout from Derrick for the ball and let the ball bounced to him. Within a flash, Kenny came from nowhere to just slightly nick the ball away from Derrick and virtually walked the ball into the empty net. 2-0 to RED Hot Chilli Peppers.

After scoring the goal, Kenny ran towards his girlfriend Joy and expressed his joy to her.

First-half 2-0 to RED Hot Chilli Peppers.

During the interval break, balloons were given out to all children. ARFC Annual Award prizes were also given to the following:

50 goals                                                                                             -           Soon

BLACK Eyed Peas was determined to set things right in the 2nd half. Within 7 minas from the re-start, BLACK Eyed Peas earned a reprieve when Derrick tricked Tze Ern into committing a tackle in the box. With a sharp turn inwards, Tze Ern missed his tackle and touched Derrick who immediately went down like he was shot with a shot-gun. The eagle-eyed referee blew for a penalty without hesitation.

Haron stepped up and his rising spot-kick was touched by How Meng but he could not prevent the ball from hitting the net. 2-1 now.

Su, Afiqa and Ariq were so happy that they performed their own Mexican Wave 77 times.

As time goes by, it was clear that RED Hot Chilli Peppers’ superior fitness would prevail.

Indeed, Hock showed all why he was so well-regarded when, standing on the left side, he chipped an audacious diagonal to the far corner of Boon’s goal. The ball sailed over everyone, hit the stanchion, and landed nicely into goal. The ball was so precise that not even Peter Schmeichel, Pepe Reina, David Lee or How Meng could have saved it. 3-1 to RED Hot Chilli Peppers now.

Weilit then came close for BLACK Eyed Peas but his shot was saved by the impressive How Meng.

How Meng then topped his Weilit save mins later. Derrick and Alvin combined to set Sebastian free inside the box. Spotting a gape, Sebastian tried to squeeze the ball in but How Meng showed cat-like reflexes to go down quickly and parried the shot for a corner. World Class save but Sebastian should have done better.

RED Hot Chilli Peppers then put the result to bed from a quick counter-attack. Blackburn released the ball down the centre and Robin ran in from deep. With just Boon to beat, Robin sliced a grounder which saw the ball happily rolling into the empty net. 4-1 to RED Hot Chilli Peppers.

Toh then put the icing on the cake 7 mins later. From Blackburn’s corner on the left, Toh charged in like a Russian tank and completely bullied Huiming who was powerless to prevent Toh from thumping in a bullet header. 5-1 to RED Hot Chilli Peppers.

Toh then ran to the sidelines and hoisted his whole family, Linda, Gerrard, Jerald and Nicole, on his shoulders and head.

Man-of-the-Match is jointly given to Blackburn and How Meng from RED Hot Chilli Peppers.
