ARFC squandered 2-goal lead in friendly

In a friendly match against the OVA Under-40 team, ARFC squandered a 2-goal lead to draw 2-2 with the much-younger opponent who looked more like an under-25 team.

ARFC received 2 huge doses of boost when Jinzhong declared himself fit to play the keeper, while Hock turned up at the 11th hour.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper             -           Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back       -           Unbeatable Darren
Sweeper           -           Combative Ron
Stopper                -           Towering Toh (captain)
Left-back         -           Wonder Wayne
Left-mid          -           Unpredictable Blackburn
Centre-mid       -           Hard-man Tjioe
Centre-mid       -           Dynamic Soon
Right-mid         -           Talisman Derrick
Striker              -           Powerful Alvin
Striker              -           Speedy Hee

Subs:

Absent:

Influential Sebastian
Steely Tze Ern
Sublime Khim
Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Marauding Guoxiong
Talented Chun Haw
Long-throw specialist Norman
Precocious En Dian
Nippy Kenny

Though the weather was rather killing, ARFC played fantastic football in the opening 20 mins. In the 15th min, Alvin took full advantage of hesitation between their keeper and sweeper who waited for each other to clear the ball.  Alvin nipped in and poked the ball with his left foot which saw the ball went in between their keeper’s legs. 1-0 and this was Alvin’s 180th ARFC goal.

10 mins later, ARFC doubled its lead. From yet another Blackburn’s precise corner, Toh rose like a fish to thump in a header ala Sami Hyypia for his 62nd ARFC goal. 2-0

The opponents then pulled a goal back. 2-1

Just mins after the re-start, ARFC’s off-side trap failed. 2-2

7 mins from the end, Derrick looked to score the winning goal when he burst through on goal. However, he was crudely and cruelly brought down from behind which earned a dismissal for the defender.

Parity, as far as players count go, was restored with just 2 mins to go. Wayne took one for the team when he hurled their striker down who was through on goal, and was rightly sent to an early shower. Fantastic and clever foul by Wayne!

ARFC secures another league win

ARFC continued its relentless march towards the Div 4 league title by brushing aside the usual tough challenge by Unido FC 2-1 courtesy of two laser-sharp corners from Blackburn.

Blackburn’s first corner was met emphatically by Toh who powered in his 61st ARFC goal. 1-0

Next up, another Blackburn’s corner saw Wayne connecting cleanly for his 6th ARFC goal. 2-0 and with this header goal, Wayne showed that some other ARFC warrior can also score with headers other than Toh!  :P

Flashback on our leading goal-scorers....

Dear ARFC warriors and friends,

In our illustrious 21-year history, I must say that ARFC has been and is always been blessed with fantastic strikers. Very similar to the best team in the world - Liverpool FC.

We started with David (Peter Beardsley) and Robin Giam (Ian Rush) as our twin-terrors. Of course, David subsequently became our reliable left back and then "retired". After Robin "retired", his 69 goals would seem to never be shattered.

Of course, we were fortunate to recruit Haron (Robbie Fowler) just when Robin had "retired". Immediately, Haron made a huge impact with his killer instinct and class, and netted an incredible 4 goals in a 6-1 win on 08 Oct 2000 at ITE AMK in his debut match.  Soon after, his many goals propelled ARFC to many many victories and often rescued ARFC from seemingly-defeats. Not surprisingly, Haron is the first ARFC warrior to chalk out 100 goals and 150 goals!  He is now on 178 goals.

In between, Hee emerged as Michael Owen with his speed and always at the right place and time to score. That is why he is on 84 goals.

Of course, we should not forget Blackburn (who played like Steven Gerrard when of course Blackburn was younger) who became the 3rd ARFC warrior to reach the 100-goal mark and is now on 115 goals.

Then, we have captain Sebastian (Jamie Redknapp/Xabi Alonso) who, though operated from mdifield and a set-piece specialist, remained 5th on the goal-scorer list with 82 goals.

This leaves me to Alvin (Fernando Torres), our newly-minted leading scorer for ARFC with 179 goals. We were looking for the right partner for Haron and Alvin was recruited. Though Alvin is already a proven goal-scorer during his Kampong Boys days, he failed to get on the score-sheet even with very clear-cut chances in his initial matches for ARFC. We were thinking - maybe Alvin could not cope with huge expectations of playing for a bigger team like ARFC? (hahahahaha)

But once he opened his account on 16 Jan 2005 in a 5-0 win at Blk 440 Yishun field (the one with a huge slope in the middle), there is no holding back for him and he went on to plunder so many goals and together with Haron, both of them were really twin-terrors. Playing like Fernando Torres, Alvin often used his muscular strength and by-now trade-mark runs down the left flank to score many goals. With Haron slowing down and nursing injuries, Alvin finally did the unthinkable by over-taking Haron!

My wish is for both of them to continue scoring goals for fun and for both to reach the magical 200-goal mark together!

Cheers....

Sebastian.

Alvin finally overtook Haron in 3-0 win

Playing against Chok Chai FC for the 2nd time, ARFC once time triumphed 3-0 thanks to an inspired Man-of-the-Match performance from Tze Ern.

ARFC started with this line-up:

Keeper             -           Hao Min
Right-back       -           Marauding Guoxiong

Stopper             -           Combative Ron
Left-back         -           Unbeatable Darren
Left-mid          -           Sublime Khim
Centre-mid       -           Steely Tze Ern
Centre-mid       -           Dynamic Soon

The match was quite evenly matched and Chok Chai FC played some good football.

In the 9th min, Alvin intercepted the ball from their right-back and burst down the left flank but his square ball across was not met by any ARFC warrior.

In the 20th min, Derrick replaced Hee. Words has it that Derrick has managed to ink a 7-year franchiseship with ‘Lao Ban Tao Huay’ at a contract value of $7 million. Derrick will be giving unlimited supply to all ARFC warriors for the next 7 years.

Bouyed by his contract deal, Derrick immediately made an impact when he won a free-kick on the right. Blackburn stepped up and thumped the ball home for his 115th ARFC goal. 1-0

In the 35th min, Khim received the ball on the left and throdded in a world-class through ball which Soon came from deep, rounded their keeper and slotted the ball into the net for his 43rd ARFC goal.  2-0.

In the 2nd half, ARFC sat down and protect the 2-0 lead. The opponents then took the chance to come at us but ARFC’s famed defence stood tall. Particularly, Hao Min once again highlighted his immerse potential with a few world-class saves, especially one one-on-one save that had Gary Bailey, Neville Southall, Bruce Grobblearr, Peter Schmeichel and Pepe Reina purring in delight.

In the 65ht min, ARFC put the result to bed off a counter-attack. The ball broke loose and Alvin latched on and fired a stinging first-time shot that hit the back of the net for his 179th ARFC goal. 3-0

With his goal, Alvin finally over-take Haron as ARFC’s leading scorer. Wonderful achievement!

Just mins before full-time, Derrick conjured a forward pass and Hee again showcased his world-renowned speed by reaching the ball ahead of their on-rushing keeper. Hee pushed the ball towards goal, collided with their keeper and saw the ball slowly rolled towards goal but unfortunately, the ball hit the upright!

Man-of-the-Match is obviously Tze Ern who covered every blade of the grass on the pitch.

The opponents equalised just before half-time. 1-1

The opponents then shoved the referee who made dished out the red card but to the amazement of all, the referee allowed them to make a replacement.
