On behalf of ARFC, I would like to wish all current and ex-ARFC warriors and their families a Happy Lunar New Year...

Comments on record victory
Dear ARFC warriors:
Besides the record victory (and it could have been more than 20 goals), I would like to commend all warriors for being professional enough not to laugh at our hapless opponents, FC Corpus Christi.
We can score as many as we want, but what's most important is NEVER to laugh at our opponents. We never once laugh at them during the match and simply carried out our job well. This is really something that I am proud of you all.
We have to give them due respect, and the fact that they did not give up at all despite the score-line is really commendable and a credit to the tournament and the teams. For that, FC Corpus Christi earns my respect.

ARFC murdered FC Corpus Christi 14-0 for its record victory
ARFC chalked up its 3rd victory in as many matches in 2009 with a total destruction score of 14-0 of FC Corpus Christi at Yio Chu Kang SS. The score-line is also ARFC’s record victory since its formation on 08 Jun 1991.
ARFC started with this line-up:
Keeper: Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back: Hardworking Tong (captain)
Sweeper: Uncompromising Edwin
Stopper: Towering Toh
Left-back: Left-foot wizard Bernard
Right-mid: Mean-machine Hock
Centre-mid: Dynamic Soon
Centre-mid: Hard-man Tjioe
Centre-mid: Influential Sebastian
Left-mid: Sublime Khim
Striker: Powerful Alvin
The only sub is Unpredictable Blackburn.
Haron, who was injured, was present to lend his support together with Su and Afiqah.
ARFC had previously defeated the same team 7-0 and hence right from the whistle, ARFC virtually camped in their half with waves and waves and waves of attack.
The floodgates were opened in the 7th min. Sebastian’s precise corner from the left was met powerfully by Toh whose bullet header was measured at 377 km/h, giving their impressive keeper no chance at all. This was Toh’s 1st goal in the tournament and his 28th ARFC goal. 1-0
ARFC doubled its lead merely mins later. Sebastian was again the architect when his slide-rule through ball was latched on by Alvin who duly broke clear and scored for his 79th ARFC goal. 2-0
Blackburn then came in for the slightly-injured Alvin.
After some more missed chances, ARFC got its 3rd goal in the match in the 17th min. Tong, the captain for the day, chipped in a delicious ball to the marauding Hock who took a touch and duly thumped the ball right into the roof of the net for his 18th ARFC goal. 3-0.
In the 27th min, Hock again powered clear on the right and his square ball was met brilliantly by Blackburn for his 74th ARFC goal. 4-0
Blackburn then set up Sebastian who finished with a low right-foot drive for his 62nd ARFC goal. 5-0.
7 mins later, Sebastian got his 2nd goal in the match when his left foot drive found the net. 6-0.
6-0 is the half-time score though it could have been more if not for some world-class saves by their impressive keeper.
In the 2nd half, ARFC continued to be generous with so many squandered opportunities, with Sebastian the chief culprit. Hence, it was no surprise when Sebastian was replaced by Alvin who next became the next Santa Claus with 3 unbelievable misses ala Ronnie Rosenthal.
ARFC got its 7th goal when Hock again thumped home for his 19th ARFC goal.
This was quickly followed by Alvin when he chipped over their keeper for his 80th ARFC goal. 8-0.
Edwin was next to get into the goal-scoring act when he nonchalantly touched home a low corner from Blackburn from the left. It was his 4th ARFC goal. 9-0.
Sebastian then took over Toh.
Tjioe scored the goal of the match when he ran unopposed from inside his own half and side-footed the ball home for his first goal in this tournament and his 45th ARFC goal. 10-0.
Alvin then completed his hat-trick with his 81st ARFC goal. His hat-trick also enabled him to draw level with Robin’s 10 hat-tricks for ARFC. 11-0
Sebastian completed his hat-trick with his 64th ARFC goal. 12-0
Blackburn also notched a hat-trick with another 2 goals for his 75th and 76ht ARFC goal. 14-0
The Man-of-the-Match is jointly awarded to Soon and Tong for their very disciplined and hardworking displays.
This match is also only the 2nd time that 3 ARFC warriors had scored hat-tricks in the same match. The previous occasion when this happened was actually ARFC’s first-ever match on 08 Jun 1991 when Robin (3), David (4) and ex-warrior Jiongjiong (3) netted in a 11-3 victory.

1st Tattoo Convention in Singapore
ARFC maintains 100% start in 2009
ARFC continued its winning start to 2009 with a last-grasp 2-1 victory over the very-determined Redbacks at Tanglin SS at West Coast Road.
Despite the obscure location, the usual 77,777 fans, including Anna and Tracie (Elvis and Guoxiong’s beau respectively), made their way to the venue, causing huge jam that stretched all the way to East Coast Park.
ARFC started with this line-up:
Keeper: Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back: Hard-running Guoxiong
Sweeper: Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Stopper: Towering Toh
Left-back: Left-foot wizard Bernard
Right-mid: Mean-machine Hock
Centre-mid: Dynamic Soon
Centre-mid: Hard-man Tjioe (captain)
Left-mid: Hardworking Tong
Striker: Powerful Alvin
Striker: ARFC scoring legend Haron
Playing nearest to his home, Tjioe was made captain for this match.
Team captain Unpredictable Blackburn paid the price for his last week’s howler and was dropped to the bench, joining influential Sebastian (sick) and fearless Jeffrey.
Prior to the start, Blackburn presented the “ARFC Pioneer Warrior” swaroski crystal trophy costing $7,777 each to Jeffrey and Hock.
With its calibre, it was no surprise that ARFC immediately swamped all over the opponents with waves and waves of attacks. However, the chances created were not capitalized fully.
ARFC was soon made to pay for its profligacy in front of goal in the 17th min. In their very first attack, they scored after their midfielder picked up a loose ball from over 37.77 metres out and let fly a speculative lob that unfortunately sailed over the flailing arms of Jinzhong. 0-1.
Mins after the goal, ARFC replaced Hock with Blackburn with Tong switching over to right midfield. This was followed shortly after by Sebastian taking over Tjioe at centre mid.
The changes created much urgency and Haron’s header from a delightful cross from Blackburn just clipped the top of the cross-bar. Toh also came close with several headers.
ARFC finally equalized in the 27th min. Some delicious play on the right between Soon, Tong and Guoxiong put Alvin through on goal. Alvin’s first shot was superbly blocked by their keeper, his follow-up was again brilliantly parried by the keeper, and Soon latched onto the loose ball and squared it across. Haron, who was ever lurking, took a touch which deceived their defenders and fired the ball low between a sea of defenders with his left foot for his 134th ARFC goal. 1-1
In the lead-up to the goal, both Soon and Alvin picked up knocks and were replaced by Jeffrey and Hock respectively.
ARFC continued its relentless assault in the second half. Jinzhong also put behind his mistake with several morale-boosting catches and stops.
Alvin was denied again in the 77th min when his weak shot was easily saved by their keeper after being put through by Sebastian.
ARFC was to have its last laugh in the stoppage time. ARFC’s corner was half-clear to Sebastian outside the penalty box. Faking a shot, Sebastian nonchalantly left-footed the ball to Alvin on the left and he burst through and again fired a weak shot which looked to be easily saved by their keeper. Unfortunately, he spilled and Blackburn reacted quickest to toe-poke the ball to Alvin who then fired home for his 78th ARFC goal.
Man-of-the-Match is Toh who put in an eye-catching display in defence. Tong also came close with yet another sterling display, as did Tjioe who was such a powerful and imposing figure in midfield. Guoxiong also put in a determined display at right back.
On behalf of ARFC, I would like to dedicate this victory to Hee’s brother who unfortunately passed away on Saturday. All our thoughts are with Hee at this very moment. He is now in Philippines and we will keep you all updated on any funeral arrangements.

ARFC started 2009 with victory
ARFC started 2009 on a winning note with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over a very determined Monforto 3-1 in its 8th league tournament match at Serangoon SS.
Needless to say, ARFC was supported by 77,777 fans which included Haron’s family.
ARFC started with this line-up:
Keeper: Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back: Fearless Jeffrey
Sweeper: Uncompromising Edwin
Stopper: Towering Toh
Left-back: Left-foot wizard Bernard
Right-mid: Mean-machine Hock
Centre-mid: Influential Sebastian
Centre-mid: Hard-man Tjioe
Left-mid: Dynamic Soon
Striker: Unpredictable Blackburn (captain)
Striker: ARFC scoring legend Haron
The subs are as follows:
Hard-running Guoxiong
Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Powerful Alvin
Speedy Hee
All 4 subs were slightly injured or unwell.
Perhaps a little complacent, ARFC was not its usual self and allowed the opponents to create some nervy moments. Nevertheless, ARFC’s strong defence, led by Edwin, easily repelled all their attacks.
ARFC also created little upfront though Hock wasted a glorious chance when he over-stepped the ball and the chance was lost. Though ARFC tried to boost its attack by replacing Alvin with the ineffective Blackburn, and Hee with Tjioe, and Guoxiong with Jeffrey, ARFC still did not create any noteworthy chances and it was no surprise that the half was goalless.
ARFC improved much in the second half and had the opponents at their back foot.
17 mins into the second half, ARFC finally got its breakthrough that it thoroughly deserved. Sebastian chipped in a ball over their defence for Alvin who broke clear, shrugged off their defender and powered home with the outside of his boot for his 77th ARFC goal. 1-0.
7 mins later, ARFC doubled its lead. After some pressurizing from Hee and Alvin, their keeper inexplicably cleared the ball straight to Haron who was about 27 metres away from the goal. Spotting the gaping goal, Haron displayed superb precision and calmness to side-foot the ball home for his 133th ARFC goal. 2-0.
Guoxiong also nearly scored after being put through but his shot was brilliantly blocked by their keeper.
Sebastian also tried 2 Xabi Alonso-type attempts with 2 long range lobs from almost the half-way line but to no avail.
At this juncture, Jinzhong came to ARFC’s rescue with a couple of stops to preserve the lead. However, he and ARFC were let down by Blackburn in the 77th min. Despite lots of shouting from Jinzhong, Elvis and the fans and having plenty of time to clear the ball near the left-middle of the field, Blakcburn fooled around and dragged the ball back to his left-back position right beside the corner flag. To everybody’s disbelief, he then proceeded to foul the opponent and gave away a free-kick. From the resulting free-kick, the opponent pulled a goal back. 1-2 now.
ARFC did not let this stupid moment affect them. Just mins later, Hock’s precise cross from the right was controlled superbly by Alvin who turned the defender and fired a shot which was blocked by their keeper. The ball spun upwards and Jeffrey followed up with a header but the ball was cleared off the line by their covering defender. Unlucky!!
Jeffrey was not to be denied 7 mins later. Alvin hooked the ball above the defender and Jeffrey cushioned the ball with his head and raced through on goal. Facing their keeper, Jeffrey turned back the clock when he cross-shot the ball home for his 49th ARFC goal. His goal ended his barren spell since 06 Oct 2007 when he scored at Tampines SAFRA against Westminster. 3-1
Other than the good attendance, ARFC’s first half performance was atrocious but ARFC redeemed itself with a much, much improved display in the second half.
For his superb marshalling of the defence, Edwin is the Man-of-the-Match.
The only negative point is the yellow card earned by Hock for persistent fouling.
Needless to say, ARFC was supported by 77,777 fans which included Haron’s family.

ARFC rounded 2008 with win in friendly match
In line with the EPL’s busy festive programme, ARFC played its 2nd match in 3 days in a friendly match against Holland Park at the magnificent pitch at Tampines SAFRA on the eve of New Year’s eve. ARFC eventually rounded off a good 2008 with an emphatic and resounding 3-0 victory over Holland Park.
ARFC was severely hit with injuries to four warriors, namely Hee, Alvin, Toh and Tjioe. Haron also withdrew at the 11th hour as his gorgeous wife, Su, was sick. Thankfully, ARFC welcomed back Sebastian from his 3 days’ training stint with Thai Farmers’ Bank. Guoxiong also recovered from a flu virus to play and most important of all, Huiming is back for a christmas holiday break from his training attachment with LA Galaxy.
With Huiming’s return, there were additional 7,777 US babes present, in addition to the usual 77,777 fans which included Elvis’ beautiful beau, Anna.
ARFC started with this line-up:
Keeper: Dependable Jinzhong
Right-back: Determined Huiming
Sweeper: Uncompromising Edwin
Stopper: Astute-reading sweeper Elvis
Left-back: Left-foot wizard Bernard
Right-mid: Hard-running Guoxiong
Centre-mid: Influential Sebastian
Centre-mid: Hardworking Tong
Centre-mid: Dynamic Soon
Left-mid: Sublime Khim
Striker: Unpredictable Blackburn (captain)
There was no sub though Alvin was present but did not play due to his injury.
Bouyed by Liverpool’s fantastic results and Vietnam’s Suzuki Cup triumph, ARFC quickly went on the offensive and craved out a couple of decent chances but were not converted.
In the 17th min, Guoxiong was put through and although he reached the ball first, he was flattened by the on-rushing keeper who was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card. From the resultant free-kick, Sebastian’s effort was saved on the line by their keeper.
7 mins later, Blackburn’s powerful struck free-kick skimmed the cross-bar. Unlucky!
Moments later, Blackburn was put through but was brought down from behind by their last defender who was also lucky to escape with just a caution.
ARFC was not to be denied in the 27th min. Sebastian won possession of the ball in the middle and chipped in a high looping ball for Guoxiong to run in from deep and faced their keeper. Again, Guoxiong’s pace got the better of their keeper, rounded him, and slotted the ball into the empty net for his 6th ARFC goal. 1-0. The goal paid handsome dividends to his decision to play despite illness.
Just 7 mins into the 2nd half, ARFC doubled its lead courtesy of some fantastic over-lapping run by Bernard down the left. Spotting Soon running in from the middle-right, Bernard sent in a delicious cross and it looked like Soon would reach the ball first. However, their covering defender attempted to head back to his keeper but to his horror, his keeper had already charged out and tried to intercept Bernard’s cross. The ball hence rolled into the empty net and it was the 18th own goal conceded to ARFC. 2-0.
By the 57th min mark, many warriors were tiring. Thankfully, player X took over from Guoxiong with Tong moving to the right. Within 7 seconds of coming on, Edwin lofted the ball high over their defence and player X broke the off-side trap. Without breaking his stride, player X leashed the ball over their keeper from almost 37 metres!! World-class goal which Marco Van Basten, Robbie Fowler, Xabi Alonso, Glenn Hoddle and Michel Platini would be proud of!!! 3-0 and it stayed as the final score.
For this match, ARFC put in a very tactical, disciplined and controlled performance. Knowing that it did not have any sub to change, all warriors paced themselves throughout and did not rush their play.
All warriors played well. This time round, the full-backs of Huiming, Bernard and later on Guoxiong gave nothing away and the opposing wingers could not find a way past them at all!! Despite being away for so long, Huiming was able to match the opponents through and through. Bernard put in one of his best display since joining ARFC.
As usual, Jinzhong, Elvis and Edwin were like 3 pillars in defence. Blackburn, as the lone forward, used his experience well and linked up very well with the midfielders.
The midfield of Sebastian, Tong, Soon, Khim and Guoxiong totally dominated the opponents which had no space to move at all. Soon gave his usual Marscherano-type performance, Khim’s skills and craft was unmatched, Guoxiong gave much tenacity and pace to the right side (and later on as left-back), Sebastian’s passing was too much for the opponents.
As for Tong, he is my Man-of-the-Match and reminded ARFC and all the fans what he is and should be capable of!!! ARFC and its fans would surely want to see similar performance from him at tournament matches.
