Headliner of the week - 20 Aug 06

Dear ARFC warriors:

Pl pick your choice.

Headliner 1: “Towering Toh uses his head to great effect yet again”

Headliner 2: “ARFC chalked up 3rd consecutive victory in Classiq League”

Headliner 3: “Tong turns creator for ARFC’s 2 goals”

Headliner 4: “ARFC scoring legend, Haron, fails to score”

ARFC's 3rd consecutive win in Classiq League

Dear ARFC warriors:

ARFC chalked up its third successive victory in as many matches in the Classiq League with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over KG Utd watched by the ever-loyal and faithful 77,777 fans at ITE Stadia.

Prior to the match, ARFC received devastating news that “2001-ARFC Most-Improved Player” David (father of Marco Mak) withdrew from the match due to family commitments. However, the blow was cushioned by the presence of Huiming (aka Duck), who just returned from a one-week intensive training in Tianjing, China. ARFC, however, continued to miss the physical presence of Tjioe who apparently had impressed the staff at DC Utd (Freddy Adu’s club) so much that he was offered an additional one month’s stint.

ARFC started the match with Jinzhong in goal. The defence was marshalled by astute-reading Elvis, towering Toh, with work-horse Tong and Bernard flanking the defence. In the midfield, Sebastiano partnered Kiat Gulam at the centre, with the sublime Khim and youthful Guoxiong taking the flanks. ARFC scoring legend Haron and speedy Hee formed the deadly partnership unfront. For the first time in about 27 matches, ARFC actually had 4 subs waiting - powerful Alvin, unpredictable Blackburn, Keng and Huiming (aka Duck)

In the beginning, ARFC was clearly troubled by their speedy and trickery left-winger who ran rings round Tong. The experienced Tong was, however, well-covered by Elvis and Sebastiano. Things took a toll when Guoxiong tired out and was replaced by Huiming who switched to right-back to counter the speed of their left-winger. Tong took up the right-mid position.

In the 17th min, ARFC earned a corner which was taken by Tong. Tong flighted in the corner and who else but Towering Toh to thump in yet another header. The fans went delirious and started performing 7 “ARFC-waves” around the stadia. 1-0!!

Things got better in the 27th. A superb long ball down the right from Khim to Tong resulted in the latter delivering yet another perfect cross for Alvin, who had replaced Speedy Hee 7 minutes earlier, to head in ARFC’s second goal. 2-0!!! The fans really went wild and started performing another 7 “Mexican waves” with chants of “Tong, Tong, Tong!!” continuously for 7 minutes.

& mins later, Khim nearly scored ARFC;’s 3rd goal with a tremendous shot which rocketed off the cross-bar. Hard luck!! L

In the second half, ARFC stamped its authority on the game but Alvin missed 2 chances for his hat-trick. 10 minutes into the 2nd half, however, scoring legend Haron had to depart the field due to work and with unpredictable Blackburn using his crazy antics again, ARFC was put under intense pressure by the opponents.

Of course, the experienced ARFC warriors held on for a 2-0 win in the end.

My personal Man-of-the-Match is Huiming (aka Duck), with Bernard and Tong coming in a close second.

ARFC laboured to 4-2 victory

Dear ARFC warriors:

In a match played in front of only 2,000 fans, ARFC laboured to a 4-2 victory over a very-determined but clearly inferior opponent at the Braddell-Westlake Stadia.

ARFC was rocked by the withdrawal of several first-team players, including the reliable sweeper Elvis and top-scoring legend Haron, from the start as only 10 players turned up for the match. As a result, Sebastiano was subjected to a slur of abuses from the ageing ARFC warriors who felt that their ageing legs would be pushed to the limit. Thankfully, Bernard quickly activated his friend, Raymond, who later turned out to be such a fine, but at times self-fish, player.

To atone for his error, Sebastiano stood in goal for probably the first time in his ARFC career. He was well-covered by Kiat Gulam (sweeper), Towering Toh (stopper), with David (father of Marco Mak) and Bernard flanking the defence. In the midfield, workhorse Tong and Raymond took charge of the centre with Speedy Hee and the sublime Khim taking the wings. Up front, powerful Alvin and unpredictable Blackburn lead the attack.

ARFC started well and completely dominated the proceedings. After some relentless pressure, ARFC open the scoring in the 17th min after a clever ball from Khim bounced over Blackburn and Raymond capitalised on a lapse in oppoenent's defence to volley home the opener. 1-0

Tragedy struck, however, in the 27th min, when David (father of Marco Mak) made an uncharacteristic error by hesitated in his clearance. Their left-winger took a quick shot and easily beat Sebastiano, who did not even make an attempt to dive at all. With that, Sebastiano will be banned from playing GK in the next 77 matches. 1-1 at half-time.

A string of tactical and positional changes resulted in the second half. Just 77 seconds in the 2nd half, Sebastiano made amends for his lousy GK play by delivering a measured ball into the heart of their defence for Speedy Hee. Of course, Speedy Hee lived up to his speedy tag by getting to the ball before their sweeper and GK and top-poked the ball into the empty net. 2-1 now!! This was Speedy Hee's 40th goal for ARFC.

In the 57th min, Kiat Gulam continued his good form at the Braddell-Westlake Stadia by lobbing the ball exquisitely into the top right-hand corner for his 22nd goal for ARFC, and thereby overtaking Jiong jiong in the 9th position in the ARFC top-scorers chart.

ARFC got complacent and Blackburn, as usual, started playing crazily and abandoned his sweeper position at will. Off such a move, the opponent sent a ball into ARFC's defence and with Blackburn at the left-wing position(!!!), their left-winger shot past David (father of Marco Mak). 3-2 now!! It is also noted that David (father of Marco Mak) took almost 7 millimetres per second in his desperate dive to save the ball.

Towering Toh, however, restored the 2-goal lead 7 minutes later. Off a brilliant corner kick by Khim (who else), Toh powered home a header that gave their keeper no chance at all!!! 4-2 now.

David then made 2 superb saves and Toh's another header was also cleared off the line. Tong also had a shot that almost spilled into the net.

After the match, ARFC was locked in the dressing room for about 70 minutes as the ever-loyal fans were clearly unhappy with its inept performance. As a result, the ARFC Board of Directors, Kiat Gulam and David (father of Marco Mak) had to start a media conference and issued a press statement assuring the fans that ARFC would play well in its next match, which would take place on 20 Aug 06 at 3 pm at ITE AMK (the 3rd tournament game). The press statement can be viewed at all major newspapers and publications, The Straits Times, TODAY, The New Paper, Berita Harian, Tamil Marusu, Lianhe Wanbao and Zaobao, Shin Min Daily, Business Times, Shoot Magazine, Female, Her World, FHM, Maxim, Cosmopolitan and Playboy Magazine.

Verdict for WO Neo Penalty missed!!

After 2 weeks of intensive high level meeting from ARFC top management, the board of directors have unanimously ban WO Neo from taking any further penalty in the next 6969 games ( tournaments, friendlies, street-soccer, beach football etc) for ARFC or in any presence of ARFC players. The number of games ban is also equivalent to WO Neo next 3 generations which ever comes sooner from the date of this passing verdict.

This is by far the harshest punishment ever meted out from the top of ARFC directors. This is in view of the severity of his glorious missed which may caused ARFC from taking the Classiq championship due to any goal-difference disputes.

Should WO Neo wish to appeal against this verdict, he can prepare & submit his appeal affidavits in writings for submission in the court of appeal of ARFC committee within the next 48hrs.

Case closed.

ARFC chalked up 2nd win in Classiq League

Dear ARFC warriors:

ARFC chalked up its second victory in as many matches with a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Serangoon Uncle FC, a team which is obviously not an uncle team, in front of a capacity crowd of 77,777 at AMK Stadia. This showed that the ever-loyal ARFC supporters did not forsake ARFC despite its narrow victory last week.

Before the game, ARFC was rocked by the news that Speedy Hee had to withdraw from the game due to work commitment at the airport. Sources, however, revealed that Speedy Hee was in fact having a nice romantic meal with an unknown female (believed to be a slimming ad model) there.

Nonetheless, ARFC was bolstered by the return of Guoxiong, Keng, WO Neo and Kiat Gulam who all missed last week's game.

ARFC started the match with the same eleven as last week's game. Due to the heat and some poor co-ordination, ARFC struggled to break down the opponent and the first-half ended 0-0 once again.

In the second-half, a string of substitutions resulted in ARFC playing better and better. In the 57th min, a superb corner kick delivery from Sebastiano saw Towering Toh powered in a header for the lead. 1-0!! This was Toh's 15th goal for ARFC.

7 minutes later, ARFC went 2-0 up. Off a quick throw-in by Sebstiano, ARFC scoring legend Haron (who else??) thumped in a volley that gave their keeper no chance at all and almost burst the net. This was Haron's 90th goal for ARFC.

Another 7 minutes later, ARFC extended their lead when Sebastino delivered a long ball down the right flank to Haron who then flicked the ball to sensational Khim. Khim side-stepped a defender and expertly shot past their keeper. 3-0!! This was Khim's 16th goal for ARFC.

In the 77th min, their left-back clumsily brought down Sebastiano in the box. Up stepped WO Neo but he put the penalty 7-metres wide of the goal-post.

ARFC then conceded a soft-goal after poor judgement by Jinzhong, who was otherwise having a commanding game. 1-3.

In the dying minutes, Blackburn finally showed what he is capable of with a great ball to Alvin. Alvin easily beat the right-back and faced the keeper, whom he beat with a placed shot. Kiat Gulam, however, stole the credit with a 7-metres slide to have the last touch of the ball into the net and thereby scoring his 21st goal for ARFC. 4-1!!!

Ratings:
Jinzhong - 8
David - 7.7
Elvis - 8.7
Toh - 9
Bernard - 8
Tong - 8
Sebastino - 8.77
Alvin - 7
Khim - 8.77
Blackburn - 7.7
Haron - 8.7
Guoxiong - 8.7
WO Neo - 8
Kiat Gulam - 8.7
Keng - 7.7

Thanks and views welcome....
