ARFC opens Classiq league campaigne with a hard-earned victory
Dear ARFC warriors:
In front of 77,777 passionate and boisterous fans, ARFC opened the Classiq League 06 with a hard-earned but certainly well-deserved 2-1 victory over Loop Revil.
Boosted by the presence of Boon, who made a surprisingly appearance (though he did not play) and announced a bonus incentives for ARFC matches in Classiq League, ARFC completely dominated the entire first-half. But alas, the normally deadly Haron missed several gilt-edged chances. Sebastian, Khim and Alvin were also the culprits too. Jinzhong saved ARFC's blushes when he made a brilliant one-handed save in the opening minutes. First-half 0-0.
ARFC continued the domination in the second-half,a nd also continued mising great chances that came their way. Disaster struck in the 67th min when opponent scored off a counter-attack. Going 1-0 down, the ever-faithful and devoted ARFC fans began whilsting at the players, particularly Blackburn who seemed to go for personal glory instead of playing for the team.
ARFC continued pressing for the equaliser. In the 74th min, their preseverance finally paid off when Khim (who else??) executed a superb ball down th right flank to Tong, who gave his all in the game, who then sent in a wonderful cross for ARFC scoring legend, Haron to head the ball. The ball came off back the left post but Haron followed up with a simple tap-in. 1-1 now!! the fans responded by chanting Haron's and Khim's name for about 7 minutes non-stop.
Then came ARFC's winner. Bernard took a quick throw-in to Khim, who then made a slide-rule pass just outside the penalty area to Blackburn. Blakcburn then redeemed himself by slaloming past 2 defenders and squared the ball across to Haron, who tooka touch and then thumped in te winner!!!! 2-1. The entire stadia went berserk and the stadia announcr had to spent 7 minutes calming the fans down. These 2 goals were Haron's 89 goals for ARFC.

ARFC in Classiq Tournament
Dear ARFC warriors:
Our esteemed ARFC will be participating in the up-coming Classiq League 2006. Our first game, incidentally, is on 30 Jul 06 @ 3pm @ ITE AMK.
Just to re-cap, we were the inaugural champions back in 2001. For those warriors then, I hope you still remember the sweat, blood and battled-hardened bruises and of course sweet feelings when we lifted the trophy in front of 77,777 fans at Stadia AMK......
Let's rock the house again this year!!!!!

Kiat Gulam "Post Mortem" match review on 9th July Game
Adding on to Sebastiano Rossi updates on today hard-fought 3-3 draw against our tough opponents, I would fairly comment that it could goes both ways between us & the opponents.
We are indeed lacklustre in the beginning of our opening 20mins allowing the opponents to seize control of the midfield piling tremendous pressure on us. With such strong opponents we are facing today, the absence of dominant Joe & offensive Khim is clearly sorely missed. It is only the timely introduction of our ever-reliable Huiming that somehow or rather managed to pull our defence compactly together & allowing the team to play in our true nature.
Going 2-0 down in half-time is a bitter feeling but all the ARFC players believed that we can overturn this situation if we play to each strength & move on as a team. A tactical team switch with Blackburn playing as right-winger shows immediate rewards with him terrorising the opponents defence with his close control of his ball skills & pin-point crosses that resulted the ARFC to pull back a goal & even taking a well-deserved 3-2 lead. The endless running from "steroid pump-up" Alvin & offensive link-up play of Haronaldino also caused major problems for the tough opponents. It was only an unfortunate defence lapse that enabled the strong opponent to crawl back to level with the ARFC which allowed this thrilling match to end with a stalemate situation. The results could possibly goes both way but I guess a draw is suffice enough for these 2 fantastic teams which faced off today.

09 July 2006 - ARFC played to a hard-fought 3-3 draw
Dear ARFC warriors:
In a match played under slight rain and cool weather at Braddell-Westlake Stadia in front of only 7, 777 fans, ARFC laboured to a hard-fought 3-3 draw against a very good opponent. The reason for the small turnout was probably due to the heavy downpour throughout the island hours before.
Once again missing Khim's silky skills who was jet-lagged after returning from a short training stint sponsored by ARFC in Germany, and also Tjioe's tenacious play in midfield, ARFC was immediately put under heavy pressure by the opponent. Also, ARFC was not used to playing in front of such a small crowd which could also have explained the lethargy play in the opening minutes. However, the experienced backline led by the ever-impressive Elvis held firm.
Tragedy struck in the 17th min, however, when a horrendous mix-up between Keng and stand-in keeper Blackburn resulted in their striker walking the ball into the net.
ARFC went 2 nil down when a defensive error by Keng saw their striker lobbing over Blackburn. ARFC looked dead and buried.
Immediately, the experienced and hardworking Huiming replaced Keng at right-back and ARFC defence then settled down and began to play like the ARFC that the fans are used to seeing.
Just after the re-start, another stand-in keeper Kiat Gulam brought out a world-class save to prevent ARFC from going down further. At this point, the 7,777 fans began feeling disgruntled and started berating ARFC for the poor display.
However, this appeared to wake ARFC up as ARFC warriors do not want to let the fans down. 7 minutes later, a brilliant exchange of passes at the right between Sebastiano and Blackburn saw Sebastiano speeding up the right flank before delivering a cross towards Alvin. However, their defence panicked and put the ball into their own net. 1-2 now and the ever-loyal ARFC fans sensed a come-back.
Indeed in the 57th min, a superb pin-point cross from the right by Blackburn saw Alvin headed past their keeper for the equaliser. 2-2 now!!!
By now, the ARFC fans started chanting for ARFC top-scorer Harondinaldo to add on the goals which they are so used to seeing week in week out. True enough, he responded with a superb dribble right up into the penalty box. His shot was however brilliantly saved by their keeper but the rebound rolled nicely to Alvin. With a good first-touch, Alvin lobbed over their keeper for a 3-2 lead!!! This was Alvin's 7th goal for ARFC!!!
7 minutes later, Toh nearly scored with a header after yet another right wing delivery by Blackburn when the ball brushed his hair which was nicely styled by Mr Eddie Tan of X'pert Studio, the renowned award-winning hair-stylist in Singapore.
ARFC warriors were clearly tiring and was once again put under heavy pressure by the opponent. Kiat Gulam made several great saves to prevent their equaliser and Huiming and David (father of Marco Mak) also cleared off the line on each occasion.
In the 77th min, the opponent finally equalised off a goal-mouth melee. 3-3 the final score.
Ratings:
Blackburn (GK/RM) - 8.07 (Impressed with several crosses from the right but did not support the right-back)
Keng (RB) - 6.77 (Had a poor game with poor marking though managed to make a few interceptions)
Elvis (Sweeper) - 8.77 (Yet another impressive display with excellent reading of the game)
Toh (Stopper) - 8.07 (Unbeatable in the air but was hesitant on several occasions. Nearly scored a goal)
Bernard (LB/LM) - 8.07 (Seems to play better in the left-wing than left-back. Improving by the week)
Alvin Low (RM/SC) - 9 (Another full of energy display with superb closing-down of their defence. Clearly not apt at playing right midfield. 2 wonderfully-taken goals)
Kiat Gulam (CM/GK) - 8.777 (Made several great saves playing keeper. Would be promoted to ARFC 2nd-choice keeper after this game)
Tong (CM/LM) - 8.7 (Hard-working player who was covering the left and right side of midfield, but poor touches on the ball)
Hee (SC) - 7.77 (Closed down the defenders on several occasions but must learn not to give up on the final ball to him)
Haron (SC) - 8.777 (Did not score which is surprising but contributed a great deal with his probing run and excellent reading of balls to him)
David (LB/LM) - 8.07 (Playing at left-back brought stability to ARFC defence but was caught-out by some of their through-balls)
Huiming (RB) - 9 (Another reliable display which he made week in week out. Completely shut out their left winger after his entry. Served ARFC well all through the years.)
Sebastian (LM/CM)
That's all. Views welcome.....

New ARFC Jerseys + Tournament
In view of our bulgeoning tummies and addition of new players, I would like to propose we buy new sets of jerseys. What do you guys think???
Otherwise, we will keep seeing father of Marco Mak wearing the Seria-C shorts, Toh with John Barnes shorts, me and Tong with no numbers behind and not forgetting our libero Elvis' "tight" top........ :P
Also, I should be entering ARFC for a tournament which will start on 30 Jul 2006. All matches in the afternoon at ITE AMK.
Just a recap, we were champions in our one and only tournament entered in 2001...... :)

Kiat Gulam mete out punishment to Hee for worst corner kick in entire football history
Always expect speedy HeeHee to do something out of the ordinary!!! When you expect him to do the possible..he will definately do the impossible like putting a screamer goal from 35mtrs leaving the stranded goalkeeper in awe or executing the "fabulous" corner kick during our last match!!:-D
For the worst corner kick ever taken in football history, ARFC executive committee had voted unanimously that HeeHee will be barred from taking any ARFC awarded corner-kicks in the next 69 matches of any ARFC game. However, the executive committee will not penalise him from taking any screamer shots, free-kicks, penalties, throw-ins etc.
Case closed.

Manz...6 goals??? Goodness..besides Robinhood..who in ARFC did a double hat-trick???
Father of Marco Mak shrugged off 4-goal feat
That was donkey years ago when Warren Spink, Craig Foster and Win Aung were playing for Singapore...
For the record, Robin got 6 in a single game.

Kiat Gulam's posting
Dear ARFC warriors;
It has been exhilarating for me to FINALLY make it to the prestige "hat-trick" list together with all the truly greats after over a decade of trying for the mighty ARFC. It's an honour as well to have my name cast in only the rare 3 matches that both ARFC players notches a hat-trick each, let alone it is together with our fearsome goal-scoring machine Haronaldino!!!:-)
I"m indeed surprised by my own scoring spree recently for the ARFC matches but it is certain not the less frequent visits of my usual "Tui-na" session as claimed by Sebastiano Rossi who goes with me on the weekly basis. I think it's probably the inspirations of the Germans way of playing football where they slaughtered the mighty Argentines during the quarter-final.
Cheers & let's drink beer!!!!
It has been exhilarating for me to FINALLY make it to the prestige "hat-trick" list together with all the truly greats after over a decade of trying for the mighty ARFC. It's an honour as well to have my name cast in only the rare 3 matches that both ARFC players notches a hat-trick each, let alone it is together with our fearsome goal-scoring machine Haronaldino!!!:-)

hat-tricks in the same game by 2 or more ARFC warriors
Dear ARFC warrioirs:
I just looked through ARFC's archive and realised that prior to last
sunday's match, only 2 games had 2 or more players scoring more than 3 goals each in the same match.
Details as follows:
08 Jun 1991 - ARFC won 11-3 - Robin scored 3, Jiong Jiong also scored
3 and surprise surprise, father of Marco Mak scored 4 goals!!!!!!!!!!!
20 Mar 1994 - ARFC won 11-1 - Robin and Sebastian (that's me!!!)
scored 3 goals apiece
02 Jul 2006 - ARFC won 7-1 - Haron and Kiat Gulam scored 3 goals each.
The feats in the 90s simply showed us how powerful both David and
myself were then.......

Match Report - 02 Jul 2006
Dear ARFC warriors:
Apologies for the late report as my PC was hacked by some idiot that caused me no access to internet. (hey, whoever you are, your act had caused grave injustice to the whole of Singapore as they are all dying to see ARFC's majestice and latest heroics on the pitch.)
Anyway, back to the main topic. In a match played in front of 77,777 fans at the Braddell-Westlake Stadia, ARFC chalked up its centurian victory with a comprehensive and resounding 7-1 thrashing of an enthusiastic opponent.
Clearly missing the silky skills of Khim who was away in Germany for detailed analysis of the World Cup teams in Germany, ARFC struggled in the first 7 minutes and could not string even 3 passes together. After missing some chances, ARFC began to stamp its authority on the field.
In the 17th min, ARFC top-scorer Haron opened the scoring after some good worok between Alvin and Hee. 1-0!! This also signalled the opening of the floodgate.
7 minutes later, ARFC went 2-0 up through Kiat Gulam who scrambled in after Toh's initial header was stopped by their keeper. Toh followed up with an other header that looped over the keeper only for Kiat Gulam, who seemed to be enjoying a rich vein of form lately after quitting his frequent visits to 'Ni Hao Ma Tui Na Health Centre', to apply the last touch.
In the 27th min, Haron delivered an exquisite through ball to Alvin who then easily beat the keeper for a 3-0 lead.Minutes before the first half, Toh embarked on a 77-metres solo run from his own penalty box right up to the opponent's box. His placed shot was however, turned round the post by their keeper. What a waste!!
7 minutes into the second half, Alvin returned the compliments to Haron with another quality through ball. NOt surprisingly, Haron finished off the ball for a 4-0 lead.
In the 57th min, Sebastiano appeared to have overhit a high and long through ball to Kiat Gulam. To the latter's credit, he did not give up the chase and to the whole stadia's amazement, he managd to reach the ball before the keeper to put ARFC 5-0 up.
7 Minutes later, Haron completed his yet another hat-trick for ARFC after an excellent ball that split the defence from Tong or Kiat Gulam???. 6-0 !!
In the 67th min, an extremely controversial offside decision resulted in them pulling a goal back. 6-1.By now, ARFC warrioirs are fast tiring due to old age and the youthful opponent took the oportunity to attempt a comeback. The experienced ARFC defence, led by the impressive Elvis, held firm and Huiming even had to clear a ball off the line.
Class finally told in the end after a 7-passing movement resulted in Kiat Gulam completing his first-ever hat-trick in ARFC colours. 7-1.
Ratings:
Jinzhong - 7 (Nothing much to do due to the strong ARFC defence)
Elvis - 9.7 (Marshalled the defence excellently with his superb reading and timely interceptions)
Toh - 8.77 (Towering presence. Made several forays upfront that nearly resulted ina goal for ARFC)
Huiming - 8.7 (As usual, determined and reliable defender)
Bernard - 8.07 (Made several great runs down the left flank and delivered some good balls to the forwards)
Keng - 8 (Good reading of opponents' play but need to improve on ball distribution)
Tong - 8.77 (Hardworking midfielder but lacked support from fellow central midfielder especiaily when Blackburn was playing there)
Blackburn - 7.77 (Another poor performance but still an useful asset when he is on song)
Kiat Gulam - 8.7777 (Sudden rich vien of form. Seemed to have luck playing at this stadia. First-ever hat-trick for ARFC)
David - 8.07 (Made several penetrative tuns down the right flank and nearly scored a goal.)
Hee - 8.077 (Impressed with some harassing of their defenders but clearly tired out in the end. Also, took the worst corner kick of the entire football history... :)
Haron - 9 (what more can i say about this ARFC scoring legend?? Superb finish)
Alvin - 8.77 (Superb energy. Linked up very well with the forwards but need to improve on covering the defence as well)
Sebastian - No comments. Used up energy when chasing a Toh's powerful through ball... :P
